Psychologist, PsychD, HCPC - Clin. Psych.
York YO10
I work with adults and adolescents who are struggling. Sometimes people come knowing exactly what they need; others simply feel stuck or overwhelmed. Anxiety, depression, trauma, complex PTSD, OCD, phobias, grief, low self-esteem, or difficulties in relationships are just some of the issues I can help with. I also have specialist experience supporting people with neurodevelopmental difference (autism, ADHD, tics, Tourette's syndrome). If you think you might be neurodivergent, I'm able to offer help. Whatever brings you here, I will listen without judgement and work with you to understand what you need.

I work with clients that are often operating under sustained psychological load inciting stress, anxiety, burnout , decision fatigue, emotional isolation, relationship issues, or a nervous system that has learned to stay on alert. My clients are not looking for someone who just listens to them , gives reassurance, or surface-level strategies. They come to me for clarity without judgement, depth and intensive short term results and a space where insight leads to real, sustainable change. I am very active in the session and offer results

I have been working in this field for over twenty years now and I still have a determined passion for it. I am trusted to hear the life narratives and difficulties of those seeking support and my aim is to help you feel heard and empowered. I have never lost sight of this aim. I have worked with people who have felt very isolated by their own thoughts, felt intense shame, and struggled to cope with overwhelming feelings. Usually they have not felt able to talk to those around them for fear of judgment, embarrassment or rejection. I feel privileged to have been trusted by my clients which enables me to help lessen their burden.

I am an Integrative Counsellor, this means that I can alter my way of working to better suit my client's personal needs. Working this way means that I can bring different skills and theories into session that I feel my client may benefit from rather sticking to just one counselling theory. I believe that a counselling journey needs to as unique as the person embarking on it. The aim of my counselling service is to help people work towards a brighter future, one step at a time. When working on your mental health, people think of this long scary process, what I aim to do is break this journey down into steps, keeping you in control.

If you are on this page, it probably means you are a feeling a little stuck and could do with someone to trust, not judge you and listen to you. I can do that. What makes me different, I’ve been there. I’m not going to write paragraphs about me because this is about you. Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable, and highly self-aware, yet remain caught in patterns of self-criticism, perfectionism, pressure, and self-doubt. They may understand why they feel stuck but still struggle to translate insight into meaningful change. Therapy can help uncover what keeps these patterns in place and create a clearer path towards living with greater confidence, flexibility, and purpose.

Testing and Evaluation Counsellors
What is a psychological evaluation?
A psychological evaluation is a test or assessment most commonly administered by a trained psychologist that is intended to be used in the diagnosis of specific psychological conditions, such as ADHD, mood disorders, personality disorders, dementia or Alzheimer's, and learning disabilities. Psychological evaluations can help inform future treatment decisions and help direct clients to professionals and resources that may be most helpful, such as potential therapy options or additional school supports.

Can psychological evaluations be done on individuals of any age group?
Psychological evaluations are conducted on individuals of all ages and can be beneficial to individuals across the lifespan. However, specific types of evaluations may be most frequently conducted on individuals of certain age groups. For instance, ADHD or learning disability testing is often conducted in children ages 4-12--the period of time when ADHD symptoms most commonly emerge. In contrast, cognitive functioning assessments, such as those conducted to diagnose dementia, are most commonly conducted in elderly individuals. Clients should ensure that the psychologist they are seeing has specific expertise in conducting evaluations in their age group to ensure they receive a correct diagnosis.

How long does a psychological evaluation take?
Psychological evaluations vary in length depending on the test being administered and the goals of the evaluation; however, most evaluations are 2-4 hours in length. Some evaluations may take as long as 8 hours but can often be spread across multiple days. In some cases, clients will also attend an intake session or interview, which can help the psychologist assess client functioning outside of the testing environment.

How should I prepare for a psychological test and evaluation?
Individuals do not need to prepare for psychological tests or evaluations in most cases, as they are intended to measure a client's baseline psychological status without test-specific preparation. However, clients may want to brainstorm a list of questions for their psychologist about any tests they are receiving prior to the assessment, including what potential outcomes may mean for what next steps the client should take.
