We may find it helpful to talk problems through with someone close to us, but sometimes friends and family can not help and we need to speak to a professional therapist. I will spend time talking with you to understand your difficulties and to help you identify the roots of your problem and identify what you want to change in your life. In doing so we can find a way to work together to help you to reach your goals. I have worked with issues surrounding, anxiety, depression, trauma (including PTSD), low self esteem , stress, emotional management difficulties, phobias, OCD, relationship difficulties, and grief.

The counselling I provide offers you the time and space that so many of us need but often lack, especially when life becomes hard or you feel less able to cope as you once did. You may be struggling with depression, low mood, anxiety, low self-esteem, a relationship breakdown, bereavement, or perhaps there is no label that can best describe where you are at right now. Whatever the case and wherever you are at, I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment for you to begin your counselling journey.

Whether you are struggling with a life event or you carry unhelpful patterns from the past, I would like to help you manage the present more to your satisfaction. I will listen and try to understand what life is like for you. If you feel that you are not good enough and that your low self-esteem is impacting on your choices and the view of yourself, life can be hard. Experiencing problems in important relationships in your life, or struggling to connect with people, can make you feel isolated. Talking to somebody could be the first helpful step.

I am interested in issues around self esteem /identity/culture, childhood neglect, trauma, difficult relationships, mood problems and managing long term health conditions. In addition to working with distress I offer ‘life reflection’ sessions for individuals who just need a space to ‘pause’ and think about their wellbeing, and for self development.

I have a special interest in body image issues, self esteem and LGBTQ counselling.
You may be questioning yourself or feeling stuck and counselling will help you recognise potential areas where change may be needed and support you in making positive change at a pace appropriate to your needs. I implement effective psychotherapy methods to instill self-understanding among clients and encourage them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. I have faced my own therapeutic journey and healed from trauma and feel that this has given me more insight than any of my academic training and professional development. Let's work together to help you to secure a happier and more fulfilling life!

When you find it hard to feel happiness and joy at the moment, talking to a counsellor can help.  You might even feel numb in all what is happening in your life, whether it is your relationship, work, anxiety or anything else. You do not need to let anxiety to take over your life. You can learn to understand and cope better in your relationships with others (romantic, family, friends or colleagues). You can improve your self-esteem and self-confidence. You can learn to manage your stress better and understand your anger or frustrations.

Sex / intimacy, relationship difficulties, communication, family dynamics, arguing, managing a break up, anxiety, depression, low self esteem are all areas I can help.
I appreciate that it can feel difficult in asking for help and to put trust in someone you have never met, especially with often upsetting and difficult issues. It can feel like we may have somehow failed or its a last resort in trying to resolve difficulties. I have helped many people like yourself, who also felt unsure initially on what to expect and feelings of trepidation or embarrassment in asking for help. I believe that the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client is all important to be effective in addressing the issues and helping you to make the changes that you want and to get things back on track.

Self Esteem Counsellors

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
