A qualified Relate trained therapist specialising in Sexual and
Relationship
Issues.
I appreciate that it can feel difficult in asking for help and to put trust in someone you have never met, especially with often upsetting and difficult issues. It can feel like we may have somehow failed or its a last resort in trying to resolve difficulties. I have helped many people like yourself, who also felt unsure initially on what to expect and feelings of trepidation or embarrassment in asking for help. I believe that the therapeutic
relationship
between counsellor and client is all important to be effective in addressing the issues and helping you to make the changes that you want and to get things back on track.

Issues may include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, grief,
relationship
difficulties, self harm and suicidal ideation.
Offering person-centred online counselling to adults (18+) seeking assistance to find a sense of calm and balance when faced with adversity and the difficulties life can present. In order to understand the impact of an issue and work through it with care and respect, it is often helpful to appreciate the person and their experience, which is why together we will aim to adopt a compassionate, empathetic and non-judgemental approach to our sessions. As a person-centred counsellor, I draw from positive psychology, mental fitness and compassion focused therapy techniques to invite empowerment and client autonomy.

My practice allies an understanding of how the past informs us in the here and now with a strongly empathetic
relationship
building.
We each have our own particular blend of resources and limitations, specific to us and unique as a fingerprint. That's why my therapeutic counselling doesn't provide 6-step plans, workbooks or programmes. It's open, free-flowing and exploratory. It takes the time to clear a regular safe space in which to unpack the events, relationships and emotions that you bring with you to this moment. To think about your feeling and feel your thinking. To talk, to laugh, to be tired, angry, uplifted or simply just to take the time to be. With compassion, empathy and without judgment.

I’m Izzy. I'm a queer Art Psychotherapist, Eco-Therapist, workshop facilitator and artist. My approach is nature-centered and invites you to you ‘feel into’ your body and environment; to go beyond the intellectual. That could look like deepening your
relationship
with the outdoors or embracing your animal, instinctual self. I currently have space to work with someone new. So, if you are ready to embrace a more vibrant way of experiencing the world, please get in touch if you'd like to know more.

With much understandable anxiety, overwhelm, depression, loss and sadness at this time, I offer a caring, safe, confidential, supportive and non-judgemental space to explore whatever brings you to therapy at this time. Alongside you, I may work towards enabling a surer sense of yourself; safely working with
relationship
issues (in the past or present); to understand life-changes (e.g. divorce/separation/retirement/identity issues/ bereavement and loss); and in working traumatic moments or life-events. I offer short and longer term work. Each session can potentially discover something new as a spur to growth and healing.

I am a British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) registered counsellor offering counselling support within York city centre to young people (16+) and adults. Perhaps you feel overwhelmed, anxious or confused by recent or past life events. You may feel stuck; finding yourself making the same unhelpful life choices or struggle with relationships, repeating negative patterns. You may need the space to find some self healing and acceptance. It is not my place to tell you what you need to do, rather we will work together to help you find clarity, move forward and regain control. We may work short or long term.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
