People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons, and often when life has not been easy. Choosing a therapy, and a therapist often adds to the confusion of obstacles to be overcome at such a difficult time. I am a fully qualified and accredited counsellor and psychotherapist and qualified supervisor of other therapists. I do not claim to have the answers, but I can offer you a quiet calm space in which you can take time to explore your life with someone who is non judgemental and who wants to support you in your goals.

Current status: My practice is currently rather full but I have a pre-work, several daytime and one after-school sessions available. I do operate a waiting list. Please enquire for more info. If life feels messy or like your brain has 47 tabs open, you’re in the right place. And you don't have to figure things out alone. I work with adults and teens (13+) who are navigating anxiety, low mood, trauma, ADHD, grief, family tension and general overwhelm. My person‑centred approach is collaborative and gently curious — a space where you can slow down, make sense of what’s going on and reconnect with your inner resources.

I work with people who are trying to making sense of their place in the world, trying to answer questions of meaning, purpose and identity. If you're considering therapy, you may know what you want to work on, but feel stuck, frustrated, or in need of some support. You may know that something's not right but not know where to start. This may coincide with feelings of anxiety, depression, stress, or burn out. Psychotherapy is a space for you to discuss what's on your mind in a non-judgemental collaborative setting. This is a chance for you to tell your story, and make sense of what it means.

Many of the people I work with have been struggling quietly for a long time. They may appear fine on the outside while feeling anxious, exhausted, or deeply stuck underneath. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, low self-esteem, bereavement, PTSD, or body dysmorphia, you do not have to keep carrying it alone. I work with adults and young people in a warm, private, and completely non-judgemental space. My priority from the very first session is that you feel safe, heard, and respected. I believe that a genuine, trusting therapeutic relationship is the foundation of all meaningful change.

Being human is uniquely challenging. Unexpected (& even expected!) life events, our individual experiences and changes in our personal lives can impact us more than we know. We become quite skilled at developing both helpful and not-so-helpful coping strategies. These work for some time. Until they don't. That's when we may need help to understand and make sense of what we've been dealing with. That's where I come in! We'll work together to understand your unique situation and what you want to change. The hope is that together, we'll help you get back on track and feel like a better version of yourself.

Entering counselling for the first time can fill you with worries and anxiety. It is important for me to create a setting so anxiety begins to ease, enabling exploration to occur. I would like to offer you a safe, warm, non judgemental space to provide security that is needed for exploration that we can take together. To have a trusting relationship between therapist and client is fundamental to bring about positive change and to be understood is to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships and your past experiences.

Do thoughts like “Am I good enough?” or “I can’t do this” follow you wherever you go? Are painful past experiences or constant worries about things going wrong keeping you awake at night? If so, you're not alone. I help people understand what may be keeping these difficulties going and equip them with evidence-based skills and strategies to break free from unhelpful patterns. Life can feel overwhelming at times, but it also offers an opportunity for growth and change. Together, we'll work towards letting go of what no longer serves you, building resilience, and creating a life that feels more manageable and meaningful.

I am a psychotherapist specialising in couples and family relationships. Difficulties in relationships are not unusual and do not necessarily mean a relationship is failing. I offer a calm and supportive space to understand patterns that develop between people over time and to explore new ways of relating. I work using Transactional Analysis alongside developmental and systemic thinking, helping couples and families make sense of conflict, disconnection and emotional pain with greater understanding and less blame. I also offer focused in-person couples intensives for those wanting to work more deeply within a structured timeframe.

If you are reading this there is a chance that you (or someone you know) may be experiencing some emotional difficulties. In my personal experience, counselling and psychotherapy can help with a wide range of problems related to life and living. Many of us don't know why we feel unhappy, lacking in confidence or generally anxious. Some experience anxiety in relation to situations where other people seem to cope without a problem. Sitting down with a trained therapist can help alleviate distress as well as uncover the self-defeating patterns we may have stumbled into as a consequence of life's events.

Are you scrolling, wondering when something will 'click'? Maybe every profile is starting to sound the same, and you're just hoping one will feel right. I don't know exactly what brought you here, but I see you. I see you're reaching for something - understanding, relief, maybe just a bit of steadiness. And even if you're not sure what you need yet, that reaching matters. It's a beginning.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
