My aim is to help my clients live more fulfilling and positive lives. I offer a safe space where they can share their problems and receive support. Clients are met with warmth, acceptance and positivity, and their challenges are listened to and properly understood. I offer both individual and couples counselling. With individual clients, we will work to understand the origins of current challenges – like anxiety, negative thinking and depression – and develop better coping mechanisms. With relationship counselling, I help the couple to reconnect and build a stronger, healthier and sustainable relationship.

I've been actively practicing as a Therapist for the last 7 years and have always worked with a variety of people from all ages and backgrounds. The youngest being 8 years and the oldest being 84. Many of these clients have lived in different places all over the country. This experience has meant that I have needed to become a different type of Therapist for each client that I work with to ensure that I am able to best support them. This has also meant that I have worked with people for many different reasons and has given me skills to comfortably meet people where they are and work towards their goals in Therapy.

A client grieving the loss of a loved one, or a client feeling the loss of something significant in their life such as their job or status need a safe space and time to allow themselves to express difficult and sometimes paradoxical feelings. They may well want to start making sense of what has happened and start working towards what their new reality is in an open non-judgemental accepting space. Those looking to alleviate anxieties need techniques and strategies for the immediate and longer term as well as a place to look at what is the trigger to their anxiety.

I work with adults whose anxiety has started getting in the way of the life they want. Their sleep, their relationship, their ability to do their job, or simply their sense of who they are. Some carry everyone around them while running on empty. Some are in relationships where their partner has noticed the anxiety is getting in the way between them. Some know it goes back to childhood, but have never addressed it. Some cannot point to a cause at all. Some have had therapy before and are back because it did not hold. What they share: they are done managing it. They want to feel like themselves again.

If you struggle with Emetophobia (fear of vomiting), you are probably feeling anxious and scared. You may even have regular panic attacks or a mixture of other strong emotions. You may struggle with chronic nausea and most likely feel hopeless about getting better. But you can! It may feel like Emetophobia has you in its' unescapable trap, but once you recognise what is keeping you trapped, it is highly treatable. I will be here to support you through your journey to feel better. From the very beginning of therapy by helping you understand your problem, to treatment and then to setting you up to prevent any relapses.

I'm Jon and welcome to Attached Counselling and Psychotherapy. We can all feel disconnected from the world around us, and even from ourselves. This may be represented in different ways: anxiety, depression, emotional distress, intrusive thoughts or unhelpful behaviours such as substance misuse or aggression. This can place strain on our day to day lives and affect our relationships with others. If this is pattern you recognise - maybe I can help?

I work with clients who often report feeling unseen, misunderstood, or disconnected from themselves and others. These experiences may lead to feelings of a deep sense of awkwardness or isolation, over time, this may lead to low self-esteem, difficulty setting boundaries, and a feeling that they don’t quite belong anywhere. Do you find yourself constantly masking and adapting to others or putting their needs ahead of your own to feel accepted? Do you find it difficult to speak up about what you want or feel confident in relationships? Do you may feel stuck between wanting connection and fearing rejection?

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
