Do you feel like you're wearing a mask and only those close to you, see the real 'you'? You find yourself constantly apologising and wondering what people think of you. Do you spend a lot of time preparing what to say in social situations or replaying an event over and over, considering how you came across? You now say "no" to things you want to do. You might also be neurodivergent and struggle to know if the feelings you experience are due to ADHD, autism or something else. All of this makes you feel low. You want things to change but you’re not sure where to begin and now your relationships, work, education are being affected.

I have worked with a wide range of issues including, depression, anxiety, stress, low-self esteem, trauma, relationship issues, abuse, addictions to name just a few.
I believe the most important thing is to build a good relationship between counsellor and client, a relationship where you can feel secure, accepted, and heard. Through this relationship, awareness of how we feel  can be found and with that  a healthier way of managing our behaviours can be achieved.

This may result in feelings of anxiety and depression, and working out what the core issues are can be difficult.
I have been counselling for many years, both in a residential rehab setting and with my local GP surgery. I work in an integrative way, using a person-centred and CBT approach and interweave timelines and mindfulness. I work in a trauma-informed way, offering psycho-educational work and value goal setting as a means for people to practice and progress.

Through Integrative, Person‑Centred, Psychodynamic, Relational, and SFBT methods, I help you make sense of patterns holding you back—whether that’s anxiety, identity concerns, relationship stress, loss, or life transitions.
I’m an MBACP‑accredited counsellor with nine years of experience, based in Wotton‑under‑Edge. I became a counsellor because I believe that healing happens when we feel truly heard—my own journey taught me this. I work best in a calm, empathetic, and occasionally gently experimental way, always tailoring to each individual's needs.

As a clinical psychologist, I specialise in offering therapy for relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, and difficulties with anger.
"Dianne helped my husband and I bridge seemingly impossible gaps in our understanding of each other and ability to communicate despite considerable differences. Dianne took us from a place where we encountered apparently unresolvable emotional blockages daily, from a place of frustration and chronic misunderstanding to a place where we were able to appreciate each other's feelings and show love to one another increasingly unreservedly. She was skilfully professional, without ever faltering in compassion or humanity. She has given us the tools we needed to succeed in our marriage and we are hugely grateful for her help. " Annon

The anxiety that appears for no obvious reason.
I specialise in the long-term impact of childhood on adult life — the anxiety, relationship patterns, and quiet disconnection that persist despite circumstances being objectively fine. After 30 years I've stopped being attached to any single method. I use what your situation actually needs.

anxiety and depression, I will support you as we look together at what's troubling you, and what you want to change.
You may be seeking counselling to make sense of thoughts or feelings, or look at relationships. Perhaps you're struggling with choices, feeling stuck or noticing an unhelpful pattern or past trauma? Above all, you may want something to change. I get how tough it can be to open up. With experience of working with people from a range of ethnic and class backgrounds, faiths, ages and sexualities I aim to build a relationship of trust. Welcoming and getting curious about all parts of you - such as a vulnerable, critical or rebellious part - can build connection to a more whole and vital sense of your Self, opening up more possibilities.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
