Hello :) I’m a neurodiverse, queer counsellor offering down to earth support to people feeling lost, alone, powerless, and unsure how to cope. Working together effectively cuts through the noise of everyday life, allowing you to hear yourself and your needs more clearly. My approach is integrative, drawing predominantly from person centred counselling (we are equal), Gestalt (working towards wholeness) and existential counselling (what is this life all about?). By creating and offering a curious and hopeful space, I hope to help you to listen and respond to your emotions with love, understanding and empowerment.

People have come to see me due to specific issues or challenges in their lives. Others want to work on other areas or growth and many feel unfulfilled and not sure what the future holds. Sometimes experiences from the past or present bring worries for the future creating repetitive, unhelpful thoughts. I believe you have the ability to understand, make changes and control how you choose to live your life. Whatever is brought into a session, we will work together at a pace that you want to understand what is going on.

People generally look for a counsellor because they feel stuck or unable to move forward from unhelpful thoughts and behaviour patterns. You could struggle to connect with others and maintain healthy relationships. You may also feel like you can’t keep up with the people around you; as though everyone is doing better than you are. Self-acceptance and self-worth may be a problem, especially if you are suffering from anxiety and depression. Do you want to move forward and build yourself a sustainable future?

Hello, I am Caroline and my experiences as a client ,over about 4 years inspired me to become a counsellor. These positive experiences changed my life for the better and I would like to use this to help others to deal with the complexities of life. Loss and change are inevitable and we can find change particularly difficult especially when it is imposed on us. Sometimes we hide feelings of deep distress until they explode to the surface knocking us off our feet. Redundancy ,unemployment, bereavement, chronic illness, low self esteem, anger management and depression are all issues which highlighted during COVID. and still remain

I work with people experiencing a range of difficulties including: depression, anxiety, stress, worry, feeling stuck or lost, loneliness, low self-esteem or a lack of confidence, imposter syndrome, feeling unsure of who they are, and relationship difficulties. I offer integrative counselling, which means I draw on a range of approaches to therapy, putting them together in a way that’s unique to each person I work with. I collaborate with clients to figure out what might help them through the difficulties they’re facing.

Losing someone close to you can be one of the hardest things you will experience in your life. Leaving you feeling isolated, lost and as if life will never be the same again. I have lots of experience of working with clients who are struggling in their grief to help them come to terms with what has happened, make sense of how they feel and look forward to their future. I have particular experience supporting women and their partners who have had pregnancy related grief/crisis from working within a Plymouth based charity for six years.

Do you feel unhappy? Anxious? Stuck? Perhaps you're struggling with your relationships or feeling unheard. Whatever you're going through, counselling can help. Many people struggle to recognise or express certain parts of themselves. I believe every person deserves to be seen as a unique, three-dimensional individual, and will aim to make sure you feel this way.

Hello. The decision to start therapy shows courage to face into and tackle issues and choices in life. This might be addressing a specific problem or challenge, or it may be about trying to make sense of things that have happened to you, or patterns that have become stuck. I am trained as a psychologist, psychotherapist and coach so we can work in the way that suits you best. I work with adults and adolescents (16+) using creative and evidence based approaches to support new ways of being. This includes people suffering with anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), low self-esteem but also more general challenges.

As an art psychotherapist, sessions are not reliant on verbal communication. It's often difficult to put into words how we are feeling and thinking. Through the creative and nurturing medium of art, I help you to engage with your senses and offer the opportunity to use materials to reconnect mind and body. Art materials help with discharging difficult feelings and exploring deep emotions. I aim to empower my clients to make positive steps in between sessions by providing creative strategies that can be use day to day. Although my training is in the creative arts, I also offer traditional talking therapy.

I imagine you are reading this because it’s too hard to manage on your own anymore. I’ve been there. I became a counsellor because of my own experiences which led me to be a counselling client. It's isolating to struggle and either not feeling able to reach out to friends and family, or not wanting to upset them or feel like a burden. I am here to help you to start to move forward with more awareness of what’s going on for you and a way to build self-compassion and inner resources.

It's never easy to take the first step towards feeling better about yourself. Have you always placed your own wellbeing at the bottom of your priority list? You may now recognise that your struggles with mental health are having an impact in all areas of your life, including your relationships? You might have become distant and withdrawn; or noticed the impact your physical health. Life feels like hard work when you feel down, stressed, or depressed. Or do you need a safe space for personal development? You may also be wishing to develop a greater self-confidence, or tools to cope more effectively with what life throws at you.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
