People come to therapy for many different reasons, sometimes they are seeking help for specific mental health difficulties, such as depression , anxiety disorders, anger management etc.
I am a chartered counselling psychologist, trained in several therapeutic modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and Humanistic approaches. I work integratively, meaning that I draw from different evidence-based therapeutic techniques in order to provide therapy that is tailored to suit my client’s individual needs and goals. I have worked with adults in varied settings, including charitable organisations, NHS community mental health teams, and NHS inpatient settings; I currently work in the NHS and private practice.

Have you been struggling with something which is interfering with you being able to get on with your usual things? Maybe you have been feeling down more than usual, or feeling very anxious and tired for a long time. Changes in your ability to sleep, eat or concentrate for a while could mean that you are depressed , or that anxiety is overwhelming you and stopping you from functioning properly. Life events such as illness, bereavement, divorce, trauma or even great events like becoming a parent or grandparent can create changes that are hard to cope with. If so, a therapist can help you to get back on your feet again.

Life can feel anything but smooth sometimes. Relationships and experiences from both your past and your present can make you feel anxious, depressed or simply overwhelmed. Counselling can help you to make sense of these feelings. It can offer you the opportunity to reflect upon the place you have reached- away from the 'noise' and competing demands of everyday life. I believe that we all have the inner resources to thrive (and not just survive) and counselling can be the vehicle to tap into this potential. By offering you a non-judgemental space I can help you to untangle your feelings and develop new perspectives.

I work using Zoom which allows you to access counselling from your own environment. This cuts out travelling time and may fit into a busy schedule. Even so, I recommend that you allow at least 15 minutes after sessions to think through what we have talked about. There is a need for you to create privacy so that we can speak freely and you are able to gain the most you can from the work we do together. Over the past seventeen years as a qualified counsellor I have helped clients with depression , addiction, codependency, anxiety, recovery from harmful relationships, bereavement and loss, trauma, family dynamics and workplace stress.

I have experience working with a broad range of psychological and emotional issues, including depression , anxiety/stress and low mood, bereavement/grief and loss.
Are you experiencing a difficult or challenging time in your life? Perhaps you are feeling stuck and unable to move forward? Whatever your reason for considering therapy and viewing my profile, it is often the case that we 'hit the wall' or 'crash' emotionally before we can identify that we may need professional support. When our usual coping mechanisms no longer work the struggle can be overwhelming. As your therapist I recognise this as your first and critical step toward positive change. You are I'm sure familiar with the phrase 'if you do what you've always done...you get what you've always got' and how true it is.....

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
