Currently not accepting new clients. I am an experienced Counsellor, working with individual adults and couples. My commitment is to listen openly and attentively to what you bring and try to help you move forward. Any solution needs to fit with the individual person or people you are, and the particular situation you are in. All successful therapy is about change of some kind and usually happens when we see and understand things from a different perspective. This can come about through talk or tools which help challenge ideas and ingrained habits, making it clear to us what is important and what we want to leave behind.

Therapy can be a confusing process at times, and it can be hard to know where to start or who best to contact. Being a young person in this current climate of global instability and heightened anxiety and pressure can be extremely difficult. I offer support for both children, and young people, and parents. I specialise in working with children and young people and have over 14 years' experience in this field. I am passionate about making the process of therapy transparent, affordable and accessible as possible. I have worked in schools, residential children's homes, specialist trauma and adoption teams, CAMHS and private practice

Hello, I am Tina and I understand how challenging life can be especially if we have others relying on us, be it family, friends or colleagues. Life events can trigger changes to our relationships or career, leaving us feeling lost, perhaps your past is still defining you, or maybe life hasn’t turned out the way you had hoped. Sometimes we just lose ourselves and our direction. It can be difficult to share these feelings with family and friends - this is where I can offer you a warm, non-judgmental, safe space to explore and navigate any issues you are experiencing.

Hi, I’m Louise. I work with adults covering a range of problems including addiction, depression, anxiety, ADHD, bereavement and loss, self-harm, low self-esteem, and stress. I work in person on a short or long-term basis. Together we can explore your reasons for seeking help and look at how you came to be in your current situation. By allowing you the space to do this without any judgement, in a safe, confidential, and comfortable setting, should help you to develop greater awareness. This awareness should enable you to feel stronger psychologically, increasing your ability to live your life to its fullest.

Do you feel like there is a deeper part of you that isn’t heard or understood. Have you historical trauma or bereavement that still exists inside you. I know it’s scary, but I’m here to hold the space for you to find your own way and reflect on who you truly are.

Many of the people I work with are functioning on the outside but struggling internally—feeling anxious, low in self-worth, stressed, or emotionally overwhelmed. You may notice patterns that once helped you cope but now leave you feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure of who you really are. You might understand what you’re doing, but not fully why, or why change feels so hard despite your efforts. You’re looking for more than symptom management, and want therapy that helps you live with greater ease, authenticity, and meaning.

I worked with clients through Relate 1995 - 2025. Now I work for SearchLight still with couples and adult individuals and with Young People aged 10 to 18 through a contract with CAHMS. The couple and individual work has included working with divorce and separation, affairs, extended family issues, parenting, illness, work pressures, communication issues and sexual problems. Clients might start with a clear agenda or we might spend some time establishing the focus of the therapy as it develops. Amongst other things, the CAMHS work has covered anxiety, suicidal ideation, family issues, sexuality and transgender issues.

My approach to therapy is quite simple, if you are struggling with psychological or bodily issues you will want to feel safe in exploring them. I offer a place of safety and confidentiality to find meaning to these difficulties. The therapeutic relationship we develop will allow you to feel heard and for you to express aspects of yourself that have been hidden or you don’t feel great about. You might struggle in relationships or you are using less than helpful ways to cope. You might be suffering in silence or appear to others to be fine but your not. Talking in confidence without judgement can often alleviate some of this.

Have you been struggling with something which is interfering with you being able to get on with your usual things? Maybe you have been feeling down more than usual, or feeling very anxious and tired for a long time. Changes in your ability to sleep, eat or concentrate for a while could mean that you are depressed, or that anxiety is overwhelming you and stopping you from functioning properly. Life events such as illness, bereavement, divorce, trauma or even great events like becoming a parent or grandparent can create changes that are hard to cope with. If so, a therapist can help you to get back on your feet again.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
