I have supported adults living with grief and loss, worked with those struggling with addiction and those navigating major life changes.
I re-trained later in life, having been a teacher for 25 years, supporting teenagers and their families through life’s ups and downs. I have a special interest in working with neurodivergent clients who may be struggling at school, with friends or in the workplace. I have supported clients (and their parents) with school-based anxiety.

I offer brief or long-term therapy to clients from all walks of life, supporting a wide range of issues including: addiction, alcoholism, anxiety, anger, relationships, identity crisis, life changes, self-esteem, stress, and loss of confidence.
Some people come to therapy with a specific ‘presenting issue’ that they wish to discuss, explore and resolve. Others are not so sure what it is that troubles them - but they do know that change of some sort is vital, and they would like that change to occur sooner rather than later. Some people come to therapy with great enthusiasm. Others (particularly those who see themselves as ‘fighters’ or ‘succeeders’) might feel embarrassed at the prospect of admitting their stuckness. Whatever your current life situation, allow me to reassure you that change is not only possible, but can often occur in just a few sessions.

Do you feel like you’ve spent years adapting yourself to environments that never quite fit you? I work with neurodivergent adults, including those who are ADHD, autistic, AuDHD, or questioning. Many of the people I support are capable and outwardly functioning, yet privately overwhelmed, exhausted, and struggling with a deeply distressing relationship with food. You may have learned to mask or overachieve to feel safe, and often that chaos plays out on your plate. I support individuals navigating the complex intersection of neurodivergence and eating distress, where food has become the primary tool for emotional regulation.

I am a level 2 qualified Internal Family Systems (IFS) practitioner and am passionate about this wonderful non-pathologising approach. Ever wondered why you reacted in a certain way or become disproportionally triggered by certain situations? With IFS such reactions can be very valuable in ultimately leading us to parts of us which carry unresolved hurt from the past. The model is very much about us understanding and developing a positive relationship with parts of us which have, for very good reason, taken on protective roles in our system. Then, with their permission, we can help you be with and heal those parts which carry hurt.

I understand that considering to approach someone to discuss private and intimate matters is not easy, but this can be life changing. Experiencing emotional difficulties that affect your moods and behaviour are more common than you think. This can significantly impact a wide range of aspects in your day-to-day life and relationships. Therapy is often an effective way to reach a better understanding of yourself and the causes of your emotional discomfort. It may also help you to find the best way forward to overcome challenges and move on to experience meaningful life improvements simultaneously alleviating pressures and stress.

You may be feeling stuck in patterns of anxiety, overwhelm, or low mood, or noticing how past experiences continue to affect your relationships, emotions or sense of safety. Trauma can leave the nervous system feeling constantly on edge, disconnected or caught in responses that are hard to shift alone. Therapy can offer a space to slow down, gently understand what’s happening beneath the surface and begin to feel safer and more grounded in yourself.

Addiction Counsellors
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
