Hello and a warm welcome to my profile page. I am a Psychotherapist and Registered Nutritional Therapist with 20 years experience. I am very passionate about helping people and feel very fortunate and privileged to do this kind of work. I offer a very friendly service, as I appreciate it can be a huge step to contact a therapist for the first time. Although I have over the years worked with all kinds of issues, I feel drawn to work in the areas of relationships, stress and depression.I also worked in the corporate world for many years and so have lots of experience of dealing with stress and the pressures of life in this arena.

You might be seeking therapy for a number of different reasons. Perhaps you’re finding the world a very uncertain place right now and are feeling overwhelmed. You might want to talk to someone who won’t judge you. Or you might find yourself in a crisis which is difficult to move on from. Perhaps you are looking for a space to have time to reflect on where you have got to in life and provide fresh impetus for personal growth. If you find yourself distressed, confused, seeking a change in direction or simply wanting someone to talk to, I can help. My own experience of therapy has shown me that struggles can be a catalyst for change.

Sometimes it can feel as if nobody understands us or our challenges. It's not uncommon for past or present experiences to negatively impact our lives. I wonder if a particular change, loss or relationship has left you disconnected from others? Perhaps you are facing a crossroads, feeling stuck and uncertain? Some life events can trigger a sense of prolonged anxiety, low mood and a mixture of unsettling thoughts. I endeavour to provide a supportive listening relationship to enable you to explore aspects of your life causing worry, sadness or stress. Taking the time to share your story in a safe space may help you find a way forward.

It may be that you have a current issue that you are looking to gain clarity of, or you may be aware of wanting to let go of a difficult past experience and the effects that it still has on you in the present. I believe that our pasts affect our current ways of being, and whilst we can instinctively want to distance ourselves from difficult memories, I have witnessed how healing it can be to work through them in the safety of the therapy space. However you choose to focus your sessions, I will work alongside you offering insight, gentle reflections and support.

Life is challenging. Many times in our lives we will be able to take on these challenges and find our own way through, but sometimes we can feel stuck or overwhelmed and they can feel like mountains. Perhaps you’re struggling with persistent anxious thoughts, feelings of hopelessness, relationship issues, navigating loss or trauma, experiencing addiction, or fertility or family difficulties…..please know you’re not alone. Together, and at your pace, we can explore the challenges you are facing now, gently turn over the stones of experience, with patience and compassion, to bring about new awareness and balance in your life.

Everyone is different and counselling is not a 'one size fits all' approach. Managing life's difficulties thrown upon us can be challenging in many ways, but I will be alongside you every step of the way. Through our relationship I will help you unravel your thoughts and feelings but I ask for self-compassion; it may be bumpy.

Pressures throughout our adult lives mount up as we go along. Somehow we manage them and get over them. But every now and then something triggers us into a place whereby we feel disabled in managing them and ourselves. These can can be big or seemingly insignificant triggers causing us to seek help. I have experienced such feelings and sought professional help in the past. It has been 20 years since I qualified as a Person Centred counsellor and trained as a nurse. Since having time out from bereavement support at a hospice, and world events having impacted on all our lives, I am again able to offer myself to support others.

Experiencing difficult thoughts and feelings is common, but sometimes they seem to take over and start to impact other areas of your life, such as your relationships. Maybe you are going through a period of change and need some support in re-evaluating your new situation. I provide a space where you can talk without judgement, and where you can explore your thoughts and feelings around issues that are impacting your life. I can help with challenging these thoughts or giving you another perspective.

I utilise a blend of positive psychotherapeutic enquiry and solution focussed approaches, to identify and reframe the cause of limiting beliefs and behaviours. I tailor my approach and work with individuals and couples. Whether you need to overcome a traumatic experience, difficulties in relationships, self esteem, anxiety or coaching to provide skills to transition through life, manage a situation or perform at your best. Building an independent, safe and trusting environment for you to explore issues and challenges in life: both work and/or personal is important for me.

Looking for a counsellor for the first time can be daunting. However, suffering ongoing emotional pain is miserable. We are all entitled to lead a fulfilling life. Maybe you have a specific issue, or maybe you or aren't sure what is wrong , but you feel low or anxious. I have 20 years' experience of working in the mental health field, and set up my practice as a counsellor in 2014. I work with adults of all ages and young adults (16-18). Talking to a professional who is not involved, that you can trust, who is not going to judge can help you to make sense of what is happening for you.

Drawing on the body, long history with Buddhist psychology and meditation, and over 12 years experience working with complex trauma in therapeutic communities in the NHS and the prison system, I work with clients to reframe mental health difficulties as psychospiritual opportunities to deepen our relationships and maximise our potential.

Feeling Stuck? Not sure what to do next or what that may look like? Counselling can help by exploring the current presenting issue and reasons for its presence in the moment, with some past focus and exploration of the impact of the issue for you coming to therapy. I work with what you need in the room as I believe you are the expert of what is going on and using this to inform the way we tailor support to overcome what has brought you to therapy. I use an array of techniques to suit your needs working with anxiety, stress, grief and loss, relationship issues and long term illness.

How can I find a therapist in Witney?
Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
