I am a Counsellor based in Manchester offering In person and online sessions. Life can be challenging, and in places it can feel intolerable and overwhelming it can be difficult to know where to start unravelling this, how to make changes, what changes, if any, we need to make, and to try to make sense of why we feel the way that we do. This can be a very painful experience but however dark it may be today, doesn't mean tomorrow won't be lighter, counselling can offer an opportunity to be heard and to be understood. I work with clients from all backgrounds but have particular experience working with Addiction and with LGBT+ issues.

Life can feel overwhelming, confusing, or just completely hopeless at times. But you're not alone. Talking with an impartial person can help manage these feelings. Perhaps you'd like to know yourself better or tackle a big life decision? Maybe your thoughts feel too difficult to discuss with others? Perhaps you've experienced traumatic life events that you'd like to come to terms with? You might be having relationship difficulties? Or you might just feel stuck, alone, lost, broken, or overwhelmed? Whatever it is, I offer you a neutral space to unload and to talk openly without being judged or dismissed.

My philosophical approach is trauma informed with the belief that the importance of therapeutic relationship is at the core of successful therapeutic work. I work in a relational way with clients. I believe that having a safe harbour to express the unexpressed, connect to the disconnected and feel the unfelt is at the heart of healing our inner wounds. As your therapist I will not give advice or tell you what to do. I will listen empathically to your concerns and experiences. I will work in collaboration with you to explore your experience, empower you to find your own solutions and build coping skills that work for you.

Therapy is individual, not off the peg… When we feel that those around us do not understand us, or do not accept us, it can feel like a lonely, uphill struggle. I have a long-held interest in what makes us all tick, and the strategies that we can access to better manage the ups and downs in our lives. It has become evident to me, through many life changes, that we work much better together than we do alone.

Life can you hit you hard! I know this from experience. The good news is, that there is always a way back, no matter how hopeless the situation might feel at the time. The fact that you are here right now shows that you have the inner strength and desire to move forward. That in itself is huge, and the first step towards discovering (or re-discovering) the person that you truly are. Maybe you are feeling stressed? or suffer from anxiety? Are you struggling with a past traumatic experience? or the loss of a loved one? You could be stuck in a rut and not know why? Whatever it may be, remember that it does not have to be permanent.

Life can be hard sometimes, it's inevitable. I take pride in providing clients with a safe, confidential and secure space, where they eventually not only survive life's hardships, but thrive. My most recent experience has been in supporting individuals (and their families) who are diagnosed with cancer. Nevertheless, I have experience with working across the lifespan and with a variety of different presentations and diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, trauma (including complex trauma) and relationship/sexual difficulties.

We live in a world which throws a lot at us, and expects a lot of us. And, very often, we expect a lot of ourselves too. For many of us, it can help to talk through what we’re dealing with, to help us understand what’s going on and find a way forward. Whether you’re dealing with anger, anxiety, bereavement, depression, identity, loneliness, powerlessness, relationship difficulties, or simply want to talk things through, I offer a confidential, non-judgmental space to explore what you’re feeling, and how you can manage it. We’re all different and we all need to find our own way. I can help you do that.

Are you finding life hard work, struggling with a low mood or losing your temper at the smallest of things? Do you feel out of control and that life is not what it's meant to be? Then maybe I can help. If you'd like to feel more in control, less overwhelmed or anxious then talking therapies can really help. Many of my clients come to me exhausted from trying to take control of their life, struggling to manage their anger and feeling worthless. After a few sessions most clients notice that life begins to feel less stressful, their relationships start to improve and the joy of living begins to return.

How can I find a therapist in Withington?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
