Life always throws us difficult stuff to deal with; it wouldn’t be life without it. Sometimes we can shrug these things off, yet at other times they can have an extremely debilitating effect upon us. Sometimes things happen and we bury them, they remain hidden but still exert a force upon us and our behaviour. They can influence us in ways that we would rather they didn’t. Sometimes these things come roaring back at us, out of the blue, unbidden and unwelcome. We all pass through stages in our life where we question everything around us, our relationships, our work, our behaviour and ultimately ourselves.

Is anxiety holding you back from engaging fully in your life?
Anxiety can impact your relationships, your decision making, and how you express yourself personally and professionally. You may find yourself overthinking the smallest details of your life, scanning for mistakes and kicking yourself for not being able to handle things better. You may be feeling unsure of how to manage situations at home, socially, or at work and the future may feel overwhelming and uncertain. Perhaps you try to cope by staying busy, numbing your feelings, or distracting yourself – or holding onto anything that gives you some sense of control.

My counselling process is client focused and tailored. You and your personal journey are unique, therefore there is no "one size fits all" approach in my therapy space. Although I have had a long and varied education into counselling, psychology and social forces, I remain convinced by a fact that I learned on the first day of my degree... It is often not the method of counselling which predicts a benefit to our clients, but the relationship between client and practitioner. I prioritise building trust and a sense of safety that healing can bed into and thrive in.

Welcome to my profile. There are various circumstances which might bring an individual to counselling. Some people may be aware of the cause of their distress e.g. bereavement or difficulties such as addiction that they would like to address. However others may have a feeling of unease but can't seem to put a finger on what might be wrong in their life. Whatever the reason you have chosen to seek help, I will provide you with a safe and confidential space where you will have the opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings and we will work together to make sense of your experiences.

OK, first things first. I'm double qualified, as a CBT therapist (PgDip) and a psychotherapist (FdSc Couns), and I'm a Senior Accredited member of the BACP. I've over 15 years working experience!
But that's not what is most important. What's really important is that I don't judge, and I just want to help you be you. I am personable, real and authentic, and I offer a space that is encouraging, kind, and understanding. And also, yes, challenging.
I can help you open up to change, and try new things, including experimenting with relating differently and even trying new psychological exercises.

We can all struggle and sometimes it's difficult to stop and notice what’s not working for us. We can fall into repeating cycles of damaging or unhelpful habits, behaviors, and relationships. We can hold a negative belief system about ourselves which impacts our confidence and forms low self esteem. So if you feel like you’re surviving, not thriving; if you're feeling anxious & have low mood / depression; if you're having intrusive thoughts or wondering if you're experiencing OCD; if you're finding your work or home life stressful; if you’re dealing with family or relationship issues; if you're just not happy...I can help!

I have been in professional practice for 11 years, and work with 18+ individuals and couples using a variety of different counselling models and methodologies. I draw on psychodynamic, attachment and systemic approaches to understand how you came to be who you are, how your past shapes your present, and what's quietly keeping you stuck.
Are your relationships difficult or confusing?
Has contact with family broken down, or become fractured?
Feeling disconnected, anxious, and unsure about who you really are?
I specialise in working with people who are troubled by relationship difficulties, family conflict and estrangement, and self-identity - particularly neurodivergence (ADHD, AuDHD and Autism).
Life can get complicated, but clients tell me I reach places other therapists haven't. I'll help you to make sense of your experiences and find a way forward that feels more manageable, and I'll engage with what you bring, not just listen and nod.

You may be thoughtful and capable yet feel stuck in confusing relationship patterns, family dynamics, or emotional situations that leave you worn down. Many people come to therapy feeling they carry too much responsibility for others or struggle to trust their own perceptions. I work with individuals and couples to understand what keeps happening in their relationships and find clearer, steadier ways forward.

As an NCPS qualified, accredited therapist I have many years experience of working with people living with trauma and inner conflict. Issues may vary from abuse, anxiety, disorders depression, grief, gender and sexuality, relationships, low self-esteem and PTSD.
In particular, I have worked in depth with those suffering from eating disorders and those in alcohol/drug recovery. My work with young people in education has shown me how early trauma affects behaviours later in life and how patterns often repeat.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
