I work with parents/carers who feel emotionally overwhelmed, burnt out, or stuck in patterns that feel hard to change. They may be managing anxiety, stress, low mood, or the impact of past experiences while supporting children with emotional or neurodivergent needs. They want understanding, clarity, and practical support not judgement or pressure and are looking for a calm, trauma-informed space to make sense of what’s happening and find a way forward that feels manageable and compassionate.
I also support young people and families using dyadic developmental pareneting approach and PACE (Play, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy)

You may be feeling weighed down by sadness or a sense of hopelessness, with little energy or motivation for what lies ahead. You might be experiencing ongoing stress or anxiety, feeling disconnected or alone even when others are around. At times, you may notice irritability or anger showing up in ways that don’t feel like the real you, leaving you feeling frustrated or misunderstood.
You don’t have to face these experiences on your own. Counselling can offer a supportive space to explore what is happening for you, understand where these feelings may come from, and find healthier ways to cope and move forward. With the right support

Are you looking for a therapist because you are struggling with life and not sure why you are not coping? 20 years ago that was me, I didn’t really see how just talking to someone could help. Why work with me?
• Experience: 7 years as a coach and 3 years as a therapist.
• Passion: Beyond my private practice, I volunteer for two charities because everyone deserves support
• Bespoke Approach: I don't believe in "one size fits all." We work at your pace, starting wherever feels natural to you.

Hello, I’m Sue. I work with adults who feel something isn’t quite right, even if life looks fine on the outside.
Often this shows up in relationship patterns, overthinking, or feeling unsure where you stand with others. You may notice the same dynamics repeating, even when you want something different.
You may not be in crisis, but there is a quiet sense that something needs to change.

I have experience in working with childhood/developmental trauma, adverse childhood experiences and attachment-based issues.
Our early life experiences may impact on the way we form relationships; struggling to connect with others, and we may even struggle to feel a connection with ourselves. Trauma at a young age, may be the cause of that disconnect. Sometimes leading to the same issues or patterns of behaviour coming up over and over again. Our work will involve engaging with your experiences in a compassionate and curious way. Giving you the space you need to make sense of and begin to understand your own lived experience.

Attachment-based Counsellors
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
