Whether you’re looking for help with depression, anxiety, loss, or bereavement; or whether you’re struggling to change things that are causing problems in your life, such as setting boundaries, communicating yourself, addictions, or disordered eating patterns, I offer a range of counselling and psychotherapy services that can help you work through this distress. We would achieve this by first exploring what's going on for you and helping you express how you feel inside. And then we would work on the deeper underlying causes of your feelings so that you can achieve both relief and long-lasting change.

As YODA said, “In a dark place we find ourselves, and a little more knowledge lights our way.” Counselling can help you work through your problems and gain understanding into why you think, feel and behave the way that you do. We can then work together on change and change that sticks. I offer a warm, supportive, confidential and non-judgmental space to help if you are struggling with the demands of daily life. I help people to not only survive but thrive. I also like to balance the sometimes hard work of sessions with humour.

From time to time we all feel sad, anxious, helpless, irritable, lack motivation and have low self esteem. Life is always a challenge for most of us; most emotions are painful, both physically and psychologically. Without help our mood can worsen, life becomes joyless , causing us to loose hope and withdraw from people. It might be the way you think about and treat yourself that has brought you here. Maybe you would like to explore areas of your life that are causing you levels of distress. Are you struggling with relationships? Trying to move on from abuse? Or dealing with loss? Dealing with conflict at work might be stressful.

I’m a mature and experienced therapist and qualified counselling supervisor. I have knowledge and experience of various types of therapy and work in an integrative way, which means I can tailor your therapy to suit you. At the heart of all my work is a person-centred ethos and my priority is to build a trusting, open and honest relationship which will enable you to feel truly heard and understood. This in itself can bring enormous comfort and relief and help you develop a better understanding of yourself; find choices; build belief in yourself and ultimately to enrich your relationships and enhance your life.

Do you constantly worry about what other people think of you? Do you compare yourself to others and feel that you’re not good enough? Do you seek reassurance, put your own needs last and apologise more than necessary? Do you avoid conflict and people please? Do you often feel anxious, low, angry, frustrated, guilty or ashamed? I can support you to accept yourself, just as you are. To trust yourself and your judgement. To feel more calmer and more present. To stop the cycle of worry and rumination and to care less about what other people think.

Only you can do it, but you don’t have to do it alone. Working collaboratively can enhance your autonomy and support your empowerment to become the very best version of you. I play an active part during therapy sessions; I intervene, I reflect, I share theories and perspective, I ask questions and explore ideas. My way of working is relational, meaning it’s collaborative and dynamic. I work with individuals, couples and families in my office in central Wilmslow (online is also available)

I feel passionately about working with clients who are struggling with their emotional wellbeing. These difficulties can cause difficulties in relationships, at work and on a person's experiences of connecting with themselves and the world around them. I work sensitively and supportively with clients who have experienced a number of difficult life experiences including grief, trauma, relationship difficulties to name but a few. I can help you to feel like you develop a better more compassionate understanding of yourself and help you to feel like you are moving forward in life rather than feeling stuck and directionless.

How do you choose the therapist for you? I'd suggest using your gut instinct to pick someone who will help you feel safe. If you don't like their style or tone move on - its an important relationship and it has to feel right. Psychotherapists tend to believe that the problems we feel now have come from our past. Sometimes we don't need to dig deeply into that past but if we do then it has to be done carefully. Your therapist needs to be someone you would want on your side on your journey - they need to feel strong, wise and caring (and maybe sometimes even make you laugh). Well done for starting your journey - I wish you well.

I am passionate in helping individuals and couples to take the right steps for them. I support my clients, to make a difference or find an acceptance in their life. I work with my clients in exploring the difficulties fears re experiencing and we work to gain an understanding of thoughts and feelings. Their emotional disturbance can be discussed and put in to perspective to help make changes to the unhealthy thought or behavioural patterns. Sometimes, addressing where the negative beliefs have originated from, helps to find the positive changes and overcomes the difficulties. Giving my clients a new awareness, growth and belief.

With so many demands on your time, it’s easy to find yourself at the bottom of your priority list. There’s always something or someone that needs your attention, so the idea of self-care may seem like an indulgence that you just don’t have time for. I find that life has a way of making us stop and listen, whether that be through a physical or mental health concern, family or relationship difficulty, problems at work or a major life event. I'm here to help you through these challenges. In our sessions, I will help you to explore what’s going on emotionally so that you can find out what’s lying underneath any uncomfortable feelings.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
