In Person Counselling in Willerby
I offer in person, 60 minute sessions.
The way we experience ourselves, others and the world around us is influenced by what’s happening in our minds. Our minds are amazingly resourceful at developing ways to keep us safe throughout our lives. These resources inform our patterns, how we relate to others, to ourselves, how we cope with stressors. But what if these patterns aren’t so helpful anymore? Maybe the alarm bells of anxiety wont turn off, or you feel detached from experiences you want to be grounded for? I provide a warm, non-judgemental and empathetic space where together, we can become aware of and explore these patterns while developing new internal resources.

I prefer working with clients face to face but I do work online too.
I'm warm and nurturing in my approach and believe everybody has a need to be seen, heard, and validated. I combine my experience, psychoeducational and relational skills into my practice and my main therapeutic modality is TA but I do bring other models into my work. I favour working co-creatively and encourage creativity in the therapy space.

Are you looking for a neurodivergent therapist? I have a special interest in working with late diagnosed neurodivergent adults (Autism/ADHD/AuDHD) or if you are questioning your neurodivergent identity. From my own lived experience, I strongly relate to people who have felt misunderstood and experienced difficulties with fitting in with others. You may be hiding your struggles behind a mask which can be exhausting to maintain in the long term. Now might be the time to slow down and reconnect with your authentic self.

I offer therapy in-person in York (Tues, Weds) and online (Tues - Thurs).
Have you noticed that certain patterns seem to repeat in your life? Perhaps in how you feel internally across different situations, or in your interactions with others, or perhaps you feel stuck and don’t quite know what’s going on, or how you might move forward? You may have thought to yourself “try harder”, or “others can do it, why can’t I?”, or even believe something is “wrong” with you that’s keeping you from the life you wish to live. Whilst these thoughts are shared by many, they aren’t entirely accurate, and therapy with me might help make sense of things, talk through your struggles, and find different ways to move forward.

I'm a Qualified Counselor and Supervisor routed in Person Centered and Trauma Informed Practice, with over six year experience.
I am incredibly passionate about Counselling. I myself suffered a life changing injury, leaving me with long term disabilities and stripping me of my whole identity. I aim to initially narrow the gap creating a divide between disabled and abled people, as I believe this creates oppression within society, that can strip individuals of their autonomy. I understand how it can feel being pushed outside, fighting to get in and be recognised. It can be truly detrimental to a persons wellbeing, self-esteem and ultimately their entire being, them as a person.

When life moves at 100 miles an hour, it’s easy for anxiety and low self-confidence to take hold, especially under the pressure to be everything to everyone. That’s why it’s so important to pause, take stock, and give yourself the time and space to talk things through.
Maybe you’re feeling stuck, weighed down by anxiety, grief, or self-doubt. Perhaps life feels louder than you can handle, or quieter than you’d like. You might be facing a big change, struggling in your relationships, or carrying the weight of past experiences that continue to show up in your present.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.
When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.
How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
