Prior to my private practice, I have 20 years of experience working with children and previously counselled within a mainstream school.
All of us, at times, can find life a bit tough. Whether its events that we are struggling with in the here and now or past issues that are still holding us back. Sometimes we can feel "stuck" in life and struggle to decide which road to take, having the space to talk through your problems confidentially with an understanding, non-judgmental and empathic professional can prove invaluable. Whether you are an individual or a couple who would like to improve your relationship, having a safe haven where you can explore the past and work towards a brighter future can make all the difference to your quality of life.

Anxiety, depression and other mental challenges can be debilitating. It's something that many of us live with each and every day and we need to find the best ways to deal with our emotions, what we are going through and how we react to certain situations. Being the best you is not easy, but you can do it. It is undoubtedly achievable no matter where you are in your life. Some may find difficulty showing up to their counselling sessions, some may think it's easier to talk online and some may find comfort with the presence of an animal in the room and even doing activities with the animal. Your needs are a priority.

Sometimes it’s hard to know where to turn, life can feel very overwhelming and exhausting. It can be lots of wee things or a big life change and sometimes we just can’t put our finger on it. What we do know is that we’ve had enough, we want to enjoy life and relationships and bring more lightness and laughter into the everyday. Maybe work is getting us down or family and relationships. How good would it be to feel more at ease? In therapy we can explore together to find a way through the fog.

Every now and then life puts in front of us some obstacles that can be difficult to overcome without support. When left to our own accords these hurdles can often take us on a downward spiral, and lead us to feel insufficient, insecure, anxious, stressed or even depressed. It may be a familiar relationship that brings in the challenge or a social, behavioural, financial or work related issue. The worries that keep you up at night may be due to many reasons but if they are taking over and leave you feeling isolated in life, it might be time to seek support from someone who can help navigate through the difficult period.

Maybe your child/teenager is acting out and you just don’t know what to do next, maybe they’ve been through a difficult experience recently or in the past and need some help processing what happened to them.

As a Creative Arts Therapist I can help your child and or teenager to express themselves, at their own pace, through the use of art, play, clay, sand tray and other therapeutic interventions, which can have a profound effect for resolving difficult issues

Are you considering whether it would be helpful for you/your child to be assessed for Autism or ADHD?
We offer a 30-minute telephone consultation to determine whether an Autism/ADHD assessment would be appropriate for you/your child. We take our professional ethics very seriously and would never suggest proceeding with an assessment process unless we felt there were clear indicators that you/your child will meet criteria for a diagnosis.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
