I offer individual, couples and family work with children, young people, adults and/or the wider family network.
Life can be challenging and at times our problems and difficulties can overwhelm us. Sometimes we can find it difficult to make sense out of the situations we are in or feelings we may be experiencing. In these times we may need additional support to process the past and work on the present and the future

You've recognised the patterns, how narcissistic abuse shaped your sense of self, how your relationship repeats the same painful cycles, how you've adapted in ways that no longer serve you.
I specialise in narcissistic abuse recovery & couples therapy. I'm a certified narcissistic abuse clinician & trained in Gottman Method couples therapy. My approach is person-centred experiential, which means we work with your actual experience, examining the incongruence between who you are and who you've been conditioned to be.

Life can feel very heavy after a loss, a trauma, a relationship breakdown or a big change you didn’t choose.
I've ran my own practice since 2018 working with adults, young people, couples and families who have come to counselling for a variety of different reasons. Alongside this I have had 5 years loss and grief experience working within a Hospice which involved working with pre and post bereavement, supporting patients, relatives and bereaved clients.

I am a qualified Couples & Relationship Therapist & have been working in this area since 2013.
There are many reasons why people choose to come to therapy.  For some, it can be a sense of discomfort, an internal struggle, or perhaps an external trigger has pushed you towards seeking support. Therapy can be an empowering process, supporting you to reconnect with yourself, to notice and take care of your needs, bringing you self awareness, healing, and a deeper sense of security. My main training and theoretical background is Transactional Analysis & Relational Integrative Psychotherapy. I also draw on Trauma-Informed Nervous System Regulation techniques in my work to support deeper healing.

Hi! I'm Laura, a Clinical Psychologist trained in the UK. I appreciate that choosing a psychologist can be a tricky task so am always happy to have a chat before agreeing to meet! I believe therapy is an active process where we work together to really make a difference to your life, whether that be by managing difficult thoughts and feelings, to taking action to improve challenges you’re experiencing. Therapy can also be useful to help you better understand how your mind works & why you are the way you are!

How to explain what counselling is... If you're holding a cup of coffee and somebody accidentally bumps into you, you will most likely spill a drop or two, or depending on the bump impact a few spoonfuls or more. If there had been tea or something else in your cup, the result would be the same. Your emotions and feelings are like the coffee, because sometimes when life comes along and shakes you (which will happen to us all) whatever is inside your cup will spill out. Sometimes life can be easier until you get bumped.....but then you may need somebody to talk to, this is where counselling can help.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
