Hello, life can sometimes throw challenges at us. At times these challenges are expected and at other times they come as a complete surprise. Often, we are able to manage them and sometimes we may feel less able to cope and could benefit from some therapeutic support. I offer psychotherapeutic counselling support in Wetherby and have some available appointments now. www.philippa-counselling.co.uk

I've been actively practicing as a Therapist for the last 9 years and have always worked with a variety of people from all ages and backgrounds. The youngest being 8 years and the oldest being 84. Many of these clients have lived in different places all over the country. This experience has meant that I have needed to become a different type of Therapist for each client that I work with to ensure that I am able to best support them. This has also meant that I have worked with people for many different reasons and has given me skills to comfortably meet people where they are and work towards their goals in Therapy.

Experiencing major changes can be daunting, frustrating and generate fear alongside self-doubt. If you are looking to make changes, face up to change, explore identity and self-esteem or have reached your limits in one or more life areas then you don't have to face this alone. You will have control over your therapy and gain a voice as well as perspective. If you are willing to make the most of what you learn in therapy then you are more likely to make progress that lasts and changes your life for the better. I offer Clinical Supervision and outdoor therapy too. I have worked for GPs, IAPT, hospitals and EAPs.

You're going through a major life change and feeling disconnected from yourself. Maybe you're dealing with anxiety, depression, or relationship struggles, but you sense there's something deeper going on. You're tired of just managing symptoms - you want to understand yourself better and make real changes. You're willing to look honestly at difficult feelings and patterns, even when it's uncomfortable. You might be questioning your purpose, dealing with a big transition, or trying to make sense of an experience that's changed how you see yourself.

We may access metaphors or creative methods when words are not enough, for example using art materials to express your thoughts, or choosing items or pictures which help you go beyond words.
Hi I'm Elizabeth. My passion is to provide a moment in your week where you feel safe enough to talk about the pain, worries, secrets or struggles you are holding. I invite you to bring you, and I will bring my experience and expertise, with an element of Christian faith if that is something you connect with. My particular areas to work with are Self-Worth, Spiritual development and Faith, Trauma, Relationships, Abuse, Parenting, Anxiety, Depression and Stress. I work with people from age 11+. With a Christian faith or none at all.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
