Helping Men Break Free from Overthinking, Anxiety & Relationship Stress, Including Retro Active Jealousy. You replay conversations, second-guess yourself, and feel like you can’t get it right, especially in your relationships. Maybe you're stuck on something your partner said about their past, and no matter how hard you try, the thoughts keep circling back. Your partner says you don’t listen, but you are trying. You’re exhausted from overthinking, walking on eggshells, or stuck in constant arguments. Even when you avoid arguments, things still feel tense.

I have extensive experience working across a range of presentations, including depression, anxiety, gender identity, attachment issues, neurodiversity, trauma and relationship difficulties. Together we will find ways to understand your mental health challenges by looking at the bigger picture of your life. It involves exploring your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, as well as your personal history and current situation. We will identify patterns and triggers that contribute to your struggles. By understanding these connections, we can develop a plan for how to address your issues and work towards positive change.

I work with people (mainly men) who feel stressed, depressed, anxious, or perhaps a little bit lost and need some help to relax, feel more self-confident and balanced, and more able to cope and enjoy their lives more happily. We can all feel down, depressed, and lost at times, but with gentleness, patience, and support it can be changed. Some of my clients just need help getting clear on their aims and goals and taking action to get there. Some clients need more ongoing support to help them cope with day-to-day stresses, and also with building their self-confidence and self-esteem.

You might be going through a breakup, loss, or major life change. You might be feeling anxious, stuck, or caught in patterns you can’t quite make sense of — in relationships, at work, or with yourself. Sometimes the reasons for seeking therapy aren’t clear at all: there’s just a sense that something is off, a persistent sadness, or a confusion about who you are and what you want. In our work together, we’ll slow things down so you can speak in your own way and at your own pace. I’ll listen closely and without judgement, paying attention to the words you use and the associations that arise.

I hope to be able to come along side you and be finding some new skills and fine tuning some existing ones, start to make the journey easier and shift the direction to one that is more meaningful and rewarding. So whether this is for Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, OCD or however you define your difficulty, I hope to make therapy the best fit it can be for you.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
