I work with adults who want a supportive space to explore what’s going on for them. You may be feeling anxious, low, burnt out or carrying more than you let on. My approach is pluralistic, which means I don’t fit you into a model — we find what works for you. Clients often tell me they value my warmth, steadiness and the sense of being met as a whole person.

You may appear to be coping well on the outside — managing work, family, and responsibilities — yet inside feel anxious, overwhelmed, or quietly dissatisfied. Many people seek therapy when what once worked no longer does, particularly during midlife or periods of change. You might be questioning your direction, struggling with stress or low self-esteem, or feeling disconnected from yourself or others despite outward success. Perhaps you’re tired of “pushing through” and want space to understand what’s really going on beneath the surface. I offer a calm, confidential space where we can explore what feels stuck and unprocessed.

I am an integrative therapist that qualified in 2008. I’ve worked with a range of clients with diverse presenting issues and I have 17 years’ experience of working with adults presenting with historic, childhood sexual abuse. I have a passion to help those who feel defeated but haven't quite learnt the tools to overcome. Finding the right counsellor can seem a bit overwhelming. This is why the counselling relationship is very important to me and is key in helping to achieve your goals. I initially use the Person Centred approach to create a safe, non-judgemental, contained, therapeutic space for you and will work at your pace.

My work fosters deep and lasting personality change. If you struggle with life, I can help. Testimonial of my work: "The hardest thing is finding the right person at the right time Sam’s warmth and professionalism really helped me tear down the barriers that were holding me back. I would recommend Therapy and certainly Sam Otero who straight away put me at ease and helped me open years of fear and anxiety. I had always hoped as I entered into adulthood that I would have the opportunity to speak with the freedom and comfort that I feel in our sessions. The most meaningful relationship I could have hoped for." - Mark, 54, Brighton UK

I specialise in ADHD and neurodiversity affirming therapy for those navigating addictive cycles, existential burnout, and complex questions around modern masculinity and gender identity. Searching through a directory of therapists can be a little strange. Trying to gauge if you can trust someone based on a small photo or a few words. I will try my best to give you a sense of how we might work together.

I counsel Substance Abuse, Complex Trauma and Addiction related issues. We will talk with the purpose of becoming...... "better than well". Addiction is everywhere, both Substance addiction and Process addiction, and they afflict millions. I deal with many types of addictions and inevitably with the underlying trauma found at their roots. Universally it presents with a kaleidoscope of personal and family suffering. It does not have to continue. Healing from complex trauma and addiction is an act of rebellion. It is the process of deciding that your past—no matter what it has involved —does not get the final say about your future.

Everyone has struggled with issues at some time or another. Some have found resolution alone through self-reflection, meditation or a spiritual retreat, and others by sharing problems with a sympathetic listener. Therapy is the process of understanding and becoming understood. It works to connect conscious thoughts with unconscious triggers to resolve conflicts, lift spirits and heal pain. If you find yourself repeating patterns that stop you from living well, together we can look for the source, make sense of the compulsion and recondition the thinking that kept you trapped in a vicious cycle.

My ideal client would be someone who already knows themselves a little, has possibly been in therapy before, so understands the path ahead. Someone who is emotionally intelligent and truth seeking; perhaps someone who seeks a deeper understanding of themselves, their context and their relationships.

I work both online with clients (worldwide) and in person, offering a grounded and integrative approach that combines transpersonal psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, and psychospiritual perspectives—a personal and professional understanding of relationship ruptures and repairs with neurotypical and neurodivergent relationship structures.
There seems to be an element of shame around exploring sexuality in our society and within relationships, causing a loss of identity. I am inclusive of all genders, sexualities, relationship structures, and spiritual paths. Whether you’re seeking support with psychosexual or relationship issues, life transitions, or a more profound sense of meaning,

Transpersonal Counsellors
How does transpersonal therapy work?
Transpersonal therapy focuses on a patient’s spirituality and meaning in life. Transpersonal therapists might borrow from Eastern traditions as well as Western psychology. They may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualisation, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork to produce altered states of consciousness. The therapist helps the patient to access their consciousness and spirituality to work through difficult mental states.

How long does transpersonal therapy last?
Because the goal is to understand a person as a whole, including their spirituality, treatment can range from months to a year or beyond. While patients learn the philosophy behind transpersonal therapy during treatment, they can also practice its principles throughout life after therapy sessions have ended.

Is transpersonal therapy effective?
Patients have found success with transpersonal therapy; this method is useful in improving anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, fears, relationship problems, and other concerns. Improvements in problem areas can continue even after transpersonal therapy ends, as individuals can utilise the tools they’ve learned during treatment sessions.

What are the limitations of transpersonal therapy?
There is some research on the effectiveness of transpersonal therapy, but empirical support for this therapy approach is sparse. It does not have the robust evidence base of other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy.
