Many clients, with no prior knowledge of counselling, believe that the counsellor will sort their problems out for them. I will help you to explore your own issues, feelings, beliefs, behaviour, and worldview, so you can become more self-aware and achieve greater independence. During our sessions, I will help you to realise what resources and support are available to you that you can use to work through your own issues, build your self-confidence and appreciate that you always have options. I will treat you as the expert on yourself, as no-one else knows exactly what it’s like to be you.

I help with anxiety, burnout, relationship patterns, self-esteem, loss, and life or career transitions.
I work with people in high-pressure roles who are used to holding things together for everyone else - at work, at home, in their business. On the outside you may look ‘fine’ but inside it might feel very different. Perhaps the stress doesn’t ever switch off, decisions keep circling, and there maybe a quiet sense you’ve lost touch with yourself.

I work with many clients who struggle with anxiety and depression or trauma surrounding childhood, grief or abuse.
Hi, I’m Kasmira. What if there isn’t anything “wrong” with you - only parts of you that haven’t yet been understood? I offer a relational, psychodynamic and integrative approach to therapy, supporting people to understand themselves with curiosity and compassion. Together, we can explore not only the difficulties you are experiencing now, but also the relationships, experiences and beliefs that may have shaped them. My aim is to offer a space where every part of you can be met with care, rather than judgement. I also aim to make therapy more accessible to boys and men, who can sometimes feel less able to reach out or talk openly.

If you are feeling lonely, overwhelmed, anxious or depressed, therapy can lead to positive change in your life by working together to understand patterns that are keeping you stuck, and developing strategies to cope with your current challenges.
I am an Integrative Psychotherapist. Gestalt therapy emphasises our relationships and moment-to-moment experience in the present. I use Psychodynamic approaches to explore how the past affects current relationships, and CBT strategies to develop new ways of thinking and responding to situations. I also offer Rewind Therapy following traumatic experiences.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
