At times, life can feel confusing, heavy, or overwhelming. You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, addiction, or self-esteem, or feeling unsure in your relationships or work. You might be navigating change, searching for balance, or wanting to feel more connected to yourself and your life. Even when everything looks fine from the outside, something inside may still not feel quite right. I offer a supportive and accepting space where you can explore what matters to you, in your own time and in your own way.

I am a Principal Lead Clinical Psychologist and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist. My approach centres on understanding a person’s individual experience of the world and the problems they’ve come to live with. This involves us working together to try to understand the particular meaning of one’s difficulties and troubling feelings and how and why such distressing experiences have occurred at this point in life. Such understandings often help people feel less troubled and ‘stuck’, for example with depression, anxiety or traumatic experiences, clearing the way for feeling more settled in oneself and an ability to make changes.

People often come to me when something in their sexual or relational life feels confusing, stuck or quietly painful. This might be conflict that keeps repeating, the sex and desire in a long-term relationship has shifted, there's infidelity, shame or coping behaviours that no longer feel in our control. On the outside we may be functioning well, yet privately struggling with intimacy, identity or connection. I offer direct, practical and emotionally attuned therapy that bridges psychological depth with relational clarity. I work in a clear, compassionate and direct way, helping you name whats happening rather than going in circles.

When we meet I will discuss what sort of therapy will be best for you . I am a therapist who listens with intelligence and compassion, but I am not one who just sits in silence. I am sensitive to how difficult it can be to share personal issues. Sometimes the work will be challenging, but the experience of being heard and understood can be very powerful.

I work with a wide spectrum of psychological and emotional challenges, ranging from common life difficulties and temporary crises to more severe and persistent mental health disturbances. This includes feelings of unhappiness, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and a sense of being stuck, as well as deeper emotional distress caused by traumatic experiences and long-standing inner conflicts. I also provide a space to explore intimate and relational concerns, including those that may feel difficult to talk about. This includes looking into complex aspects of sexuality, desire, and personal identity.

You are probably struggling with something in your life which you have been unable to resolve yourself. This may be a relationship or sexual problem, anger issues, family problems, anxiety/depression or maybe just a feeling that something is missing in your life. You may have found that you haven't been able to come up with a solution and that talking to family or friends feels like you're burdening them or it is hard to get an objective perspective. Instead of feeling like you're going round in circles and repeating the same mistakes, you'd like to feel more free and empowered.

Sex is a natural, normal and enjoyable part of our lives but sometimes it can become something that feels out of control, damaging and destructive. Some people find themselves addicted to porn, watching it for hours every day, and as a result their work and their relationships suffer. Others become addicted to having sex with strangers or with escorts. They may find themselves spending huge amounts of money, putting themselves and their partners at risk of sexually transmitted diseases and damaging their relationships. When sex feels like it has become out of control, then it is time to seek help.

When should someone seek treatment for sex addiction?
People should seek treatment for sex addiction if they cannot control their sexual thoughts or behaviours to the point that it disrupts their ability to function in daily life, for example by threatening their finances, career, or relationships. This may include spending an excessive amount of time obsessing over sex, planning sex, watching pornography, or masturbating, as well as consistently engaging in risky sexual activities, using sex to escape distressing feelings, or attempting yet failing to control sexual behaviour.

What are the most common treatment options for sex addiction?
Psychotherapy is the most common treatment for sex addiction; therapy helps patients better understand their compulsive thoughts and behaviours and develop strategies to manage their desires. Therapy may be supplemented by medications, such as antidepressants, mood stabilizers, anti-androgens, alcohol and substance use medications, as well as support groups, such as 12-step programs.

How long does therapy take for sex addiction?
Recovering from compulsive behaviour takes time and effort. There’s no precise timeline for treatment, but research suggests 12 therapy sessions may be enough to see change. Treatment for sexual compulsions requires honesty in therapy, a commitment to understanding triggers and developing coping skills, and potential lifestyle changes such as cutting out alcohol or drugs.

What if sex addiction is left untreated?
Compulsive sexual behaviour can have serious repercussions if left unaddressed. For example, if sexual obsessions consume the vast majority of a person’s time, they may lose their job. If they can’t stop paying for sex, their finances may suffer. If they’re dishonest in their relationships, their partner may leave them. If they consistently feel shame, they may struggle with anxiety, depression, or loneliness. Therapy can help people develop the tools to manage sexual thoughts and behaviours that feel uncontrollable.
