There are times in our lives when we feel that no one understands or is interested in what is going on for us. We can be left feeling misunderstood and uncared for. Talking about what is going on for us can be very difficult because it is not easy to find someone we can trust. I offer a person-centred approach but also use a holistic approach to therapy, this aids with focuses on an individual’s self-worth and values. I believe that being valued as a person, without the fear of being judged can help an individual to accept who they are and help reconnect with themselves with the people and things that are precious to them.

In our initial sessions we will explore the issues and establish possible links to your family or childhood.
Starting adult life can be difficult sometimes. You may be at the onset of a career, gaining your independence, starting new relationships or questioning if the life you are creating is really what you want. Perhaps you feel anxious, confused, overwhelmed, angry, depressed or just not quite yourself. I work with young adults, offering a warm and non-judgmental space where we can slowly make sense of these difficult thoughts and feelings and create a deeper understanding of yourself so that you feel empowered. I warmly welcome young adults starting their careers and those in higher education from any background into my practice.

I decided to train in child psychotherapy when I experienced the difficulty of navigating the EHCP system within my own family as I wanted to learn how to support families at a deeper level.
The approach I use is integrative, evidence-based and trauma-informed while being grounded in psychodynamic and creative modalities. When helpful, arts and play therapy will be incorporated to enable clients to express themselves and process complex feelings that can feel beyond words.

I am an Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist.
Children and young people may not have the language to express their experiences so they may communicate their distress through their behaviour. Psychotherapy can help them connect with, express and develop language for their emotional difficulties. This can facilitate them feeling understood and therefore less isolated in their experience.

You'll be surprised by how much can change for you. I am able to help people from all backgrounds and those who have exhausted all other options. I am trained to provide individuals, couples, and groups with evidence-based treatments for a range of difficulties that impact well-being and quality of life. My clients struggle with low mood and anxiety, and are affected by issues such as relationship problems, low self-esteem, trauma, sexual problems, loss and bereavement, or substance misuse. Many also experience a number of issues at once, making problems seem insurmountable. They often come to therapy feeling stuck and tired.

I support children and young people (aged 4-16) navigating anxiety, low mood, social communication difficulties, learning needs, bereavement, and the impact of family adversity - including parental substance misuse, domestic violence, parental separation, contact concerns, and homelessness.
I work both directly with children offering play and creative arts therapy as well as working closely with parents and carers supporting emotional wellbeing at home through strategies to manage those tricky times. I offer a calm nurturing space for clients to come and express their needs through play without the need for expression with words.

Perhaps you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or quietly struggling in ways others can’t see. You may look like you’re coping on the outside, but inside you feel anxious, low, disconnected, or unsure of who you are anymore. Maybe you’re navigating relationship difficulties, loss, life transitions, work stress, or long-standing patterns that keep repeating. You might simply want a space where you don’t have to explain yourself, perform, or be “the strong one.” At the heart of it, you want to feel heard. Understood. Accepted. You want clarity, confidence, and the freedom to be yourself without judgement.

FAQ - About Child Therapy
When does a child need to see a therapist?
Children naturally experience emotional ups and downs. Sometimes, though, they need support from a professional. A child may benefit from therapy if their emotions or behaviours change significantly within a short period of time. For example, if a child usually spends time with friends after school but begins isolating in their room, further inquiry is warranted. Other areas for concern include altered sleep patterns, lack of appetite, intense anger, irritability, or hopelessness, or developmental regression in young children (bedwetting, thumb-sucking).

What can a child therapist help with?
A therapist can help with any difficult experience a child may encounter growing up, including learning problems or anxiety related to school, relationship challenges with friends or parents, bullying, intense emotions or phobias, divorce and family dynamics, or the death of a pet or loved one. A therapist can help children process their experience and develop coping skills in an age-appropriate way

What therapy types are most suitable for children?
Children can benefit from different forms of therapy, including family therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and exposure therapy, depending on their condition. Play therapy is a great option for younger children who may not be able to fully articulate their feelings. In this approach, kids play with toys and games while a therapist observes and helps the child express their emotions and develop coping skills.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
