I am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council and work from a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic perspective.
I offer a space where you can take time to explore your experiences, thoughts and feelings to understand yourself more deeply. I believe that every person’s story is unique, shaped by their own experiences, background, culture, and the challenges they have faced. I aim to create a space where you can feel heard and understood. I work with people seeking support for anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties and attachment issues, addictions, grief and loss, life transitions, work-related stress, burnout, family pressures and caregiving strain. We can also explore creative ways to express yourself.

Hi, I’m Bernadette. I am an Accredited Member of the BACP with 8 years’ experience working as a counsellor for an IAPT service, mainly working with clients suffering from depression and anxiety. I previously worked with Cruse Bereavement Service, during which time I trained to therapeutically work with adults and children who have experienced loss and grief. I also gained invaluable experience working with the YMCA counselling teenagers and young people. Over the previous 30 years, I practised as a registered nurse, school nurse and registered midwife before training as a counsellor.

Finding your way here takes courage. Whether it was a moment of crisis, a quiet sense that something isn't right, or simply a feeling that you deserve more from life. Life can shake us in ways we never expected. Anxiety, grief, anger, emptiness, or a disconnection from the life force that makes us feel alive. Sometimes what we experience isn't just one feeling, but many, pulling in different directions, often at the same time. Parts of us that long to be seen, others that protect, withdraw, or fight. When these parts are in conflict or feel disconnected from each other, life can feel fragmented.

Having a fulfilling and lasting relationship is something we all aspire to, but it isn't always easy. Relationships can go wrong for all sorts of reasons and it's difficult to know where to go for help. In my work as a sex and relationship therapist, I work with both couples and individuals to not only get your relationship back on track and improve communication, but also to help it develop so that it achieves its full potential. Often, problems in a relationship can be an opportunity to develop it so get in touch with me if you need some help either to heal a crisis or to make your relationship the best it can be.

Are you experiencing distress or dissatisfaction in your life no matter how hard you try? This may have been going on for a long time or perhaps you're left feeling out-of-control after a loved-one dying, a big change happening in your life, or maybe illness striking you or somebody that you care for? Perhaps nothing has happened, but you feel stuck and unhappy with your life and relationships? Are you exhausted taking care of others needs whilst ignoring your own? Whatever your situation you would like to find greater ease within yourself and have more satisfying relationships with other people in your life.

We all deserve to have someone championing us. I am here to offer caring and supportive therapy, where you can explore your challenges and build a life grounded in self-compassion and understanding. You may be facing the pain of a loss or breakup, or trying to untangle patterns of anxiety or isolation, or simply craving a safe space to be heard and understood. My goal is to help you be 100% of who you are. Therapy is a space to share, to be silent, cry, laugh, even be playful. As a gay man I have learned the power of embracing all the parts of who I am (including the messy bits!) and I want the same for you.

My main disciplines are Psychodynamic Therapy, Individual (Adlerian) Therapy and some CBT techniques.
Counselling encourages you to examine your ways of relating to others, as well as your feelings and can raise your self-awareness, which can help you to see your situation more clearly and restore your ability to choose. I work in a gental and collaborative way to help you to understand what is happening in your life and how you can make positive changes.

I believe that when things are difficult in life psychotherapy provides a precious and powerful space to develop greater insight, acceptance, and aliveness. Most importantly, I will listen to you with warmth, empathy, and respect for the unique experiences that led you to seek support. I believe that you are the expert on you, not me. I will also offer my real, human responses to what you bring to our sessions. I won’t diagnose you or offer advice, no matter how nicely you ask me to.

People often reach out to therapy when they are ready for change. Some people do not even know what those changes might be yet. Your journey with therapy is very personal and you might be interested in understanding yourself better, or simply want a safe and confidential space to talk, get things off your mind. Whatever your thoughts are right now, I imagine you are hoping for something to be different in your life. I work extensively with Attachment, Trauma, Grief, Anxiety, Depression, Chronic Illness and Chronic Pain. How different could your life feel if you could develop the understanding needed to reconnect with yourself?

My clients often come to therapy after noticing a lack of motivation or feeling disconnected. They may feel overwhelmed by daily pressures, weighed down by anxiety, depression, or trauma, or left questioning their sense of self. Many describe feeling misunderstood, not fitting in, or never feeling “good enough.” I work with neurodivergent adults (ADHD, autism and AuDHD, diagnosed or exploring), and those navigating questions about identity, relationships, or sexuality. Together, we’ll create a safe space where you can process your past, understand yourself more deeply, and move through life with greater confidence and ease.

Hi, I’m Dani, a warm and empathic counsellor offering counselling to adults based in Bristol (although I work with clients online across the UK). Regardless of location, I aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment where you can talk openly and confidentially about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, without fear of judgement. It is my personal belief that feeling truly heard and accepted can be a powerful part of our emotional healing and personal growth.

My work is guided by Humanistic principles, and I draw from psychodynamic and transpersonal approaches.
I provide a space to explore whatever struggles may have brought you here - it might be anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, or a general sense that you are not where you want to be in life. By exploring current or long-standing challenges, we can work together to better understand unhelpful patterns which might be keeping you stuck, and start to build a heathier relationship with yourself and others. Previously I have worked at the BCPC Low-Cost Counselling Service, and I have experience working with adults with a broad range of issues.

I facilitate space that allows co-created sessions, that suit the individual needs of those that I work with. There is no pressure to make art within the sessions but there is always a selection of art materials, alongside other creative tools to aid exploration of your inner world. Through the therapy, my clients are able to build a stronger sense of who they are and of the patterns that have formed in their lives and to consequently, begin to make the changes in their life and in their relationships that they desire. My work is also informed by Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS).

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
