Working in a peaceful, rural location - and also from a town centre practice, in Yeovil - I provide a safe, confidential and supportive space to explore the difficulties you have. What is troubling you? People seek therapy for many reasons. Perhaps you are struggling with a personal relationship, anxiety, or depression is preventing you from thriving? Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed by a lack of identity or meaning, or your relationship with food is getting you down/out of control? Having worked in the NHS as a specialist dietitian, I can also offer therapy around food, weight & body-related issues.

I am a person-centred counsellor specialising in anxiety and self-esteem, which are often related also to trauma, depression , panic and relationship issues and difficult early life experiences.
Are you exhausted by the effort it takes to manage your feelings? Do you want to feel safe? Do you wonder who you are or why you feel bad? Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression , low self esteem, panic disorders or relationship problems, there is good news. Research has shown that a good relationship with a counsellor/therapist can really help. My approach is to help you understand both 'your hidden self' (the unconscious) and find everyday tools and tasks that can help you change your life. I hope I can show you that all the wisdom and creativity you need to enjoy your life is within reach.

Are you feeling anxious, depressed , stressed, insecure, or overwhelmed by your emotions? Or are you looking for someone who will listen and be non judgemental and to whom you can talk in confidence about issues that are bothering you that would be difficult to share with friends or family members? Your feelings may be related to a bereavement or loss, the effects of abuse, relationship issues, or a major life change or may be related to something unresolved from the past. You may also be seeking support in setting goals and moving on in a positive way. These (and others) are areas in which I am well experienced.

Hi, I'm Julie, and I am passionate about working with people who have experienced abuse or trauma, whether it be sexual, physical or emotional. When we experience trauma we lose part of who we truly are because of the after effects, such as anxiety, depression , panic attacks, flashbacks and dissociation (when we feel distanced from our emotions or ‘spaced out’, as if we’re living on autopilot). I love helping people rediscover who they really are by creating an environment in which they feel safe and completely accepted. I don't analyse you but with careful listening will know what we need to work on.

Are you looking for a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental environment in which you can explore difficult emotions and experiences at your own pace? Sharing and talking about our problems with another person is the oldest form of medicine; it can help us feel acknowledged and heard. I believe we are the experts of our own life as we are the only ones that have lived it. Feeling genuinely heard, and being treated as an equal and unique individual throughout the psychotherapy process, creates an environment where acceptance and positive change can grow.

Working from a converted coach house in a quiet spot on the outskirts of Wedmore, I offer both long-term and short-term counselling. My aim is to provide a warm, confidential and non-judgemental space in which you can feel safe and understood and where you can explore the things that feel important to you. I work creatively and am pro-active, but am never directive and am not limited to just one way of working. Quite the reverse. I will recognise you as an individual with unique thoughts, feelings, needs, wants, experiences and circumstances and, as an integrative practitioner will tailor my work accordingly

We all desire meaningfulness in our lives and we usually seek out the healing of therapy at times when life may feel challenging, difficult, directionless or overwhelming in some way. Life contains setbacks and suffering which can feel painful and we may develop strategies to avoid and bypass such feelings. The process of therapy is to gently explore in the present the way we feel about ourselves and our lives and to bring embodied awareness to what obscures the inherent wholeness at our core.

Men are pretty bad when it comes to seeking help for health (physical or mental), preferring to sort the problems out themselves. I work within a specific 'man-friendly' approach to counselling, meaning we focus on how and where you want to be in the future and go from there, only looking back when the past blocks to you from moving on. I help you to find the best solution that fits your life circumstances, works for you and, enables you to develop the skills to cope with what life throws at you in the future. If you want a counsellor who believes in the power of conversation, humour and looking forward, let's chat.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
