Making the decision to enter into psychotherapy can be an important step and my aim is to offer a confidential space to discuss your concerns. Psychotherapy can be an opportunity to talk through what feels difficult or problematic in life. Sometimes people have an idea about the nature of their difficulties, others are less sure. Talking with a therapist can help you to discover and make sense of what is leaving you feeling either stuck, lost, anxious, unhappy or overwhelmed.

I am a qualified therapist dedicated to supporting individuals with long-term health conditions through integrative counselling. My approach emphasizes empathy, understanding, and non-judgement, especially when supporting those dealing with dementia and other complex health issues. I also provide counselling support for carers and loved ones of individuals living with long-term health conditions. The stress experienced by carers is often underestimated, which can lead to burnout and adverse health effects.

I offer compassionate, trauma-informed support for personal growth and healing. I'll support you to not only recognise the ways in which trauma is impacting the ways you relate to yourself and others, but also to uncover new strengths and opportunities for personal growth beyond the challenges you've have faced.
I have often found that understanding people's diagnoses and symptoms as responses to what they have lived through is valuable in helping them shed the self-blame they might carry. Often, people find themselves stuck in cycles of behaviour that no longer serve them, yet feel at a loss for how to make meaningful change.

Hello and welcome. I’m here to help you find the inner strengths you need to unblock what’s troubling you and move on with your life. My clients tell me I’m warm, kind and insightful – which is good, because my main aim is to offer a safe, welcoming place where you feel willing and able to consider making changes. Most of us aren’t used to reaching out for professional support. We’re brought up to think asking for help can be a sign of weakness. But whatever you’re facing, working together with a professional therapist can let you see a way forward.

I believe we all have, in ourselves, the ability to work through our own problems; sometimes we just need the space, time and support to do it. Talking through emotional turmoil, life experiences or life changes can help you gain clarity and a better understanding of yourself. Sometimes talking to our friends and family can seem too daunting, often we can’t help wondering if we will be taken seriously and what they might think of us. We don’t want to worry them or think nobody will be interested. What would it be like to talk without judgment or advice? Someone who acts as a thinking partner.

If people often tell you to "lighten up" or "stop being so sensitive", you might find that you're always thinking and feel things deeply. You just seem to care too much and often feel overwhelmed or hurt. You may be worried that you don't really fit in and you’re so busy trying to please other people that you've lost touch with who you are, or you may be clear about who you are but are too ashamed to show it, and that leaves you lonely inside and afraid of rejection. You may wish that you weren't so sensitive and feel that it holds you back, or perhaps you find that you take on more than you can manage and then you end up exhausted.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
