Child Counselling in Watford
If you are worried about a child or adolescent or you are a young adult as a fully qualified therapeutic counsellor / psychotherapist for young people, I can help.
Some young people find it challenging to speak about concerns, it can take time and that is perfectly fine. So here in my bubble, art and creativity are used to help support expression, used to guide exploration and regulation. And, for younger children, play aids their journey to emotional well-being.

I have worked in mental health for over 20 years, qualifying as an integrative counsellor in 2004, and am experienced in working with children and adults for a wide range and depth of issues.
I understand that finding the right person and deciding to meet a new counsellor or therapist to begin a piece of self development work is an investment on many levels. If it helps, I am happy to arrange to talk on the telephone, video platform or through email to answer any questions you might have. We can then arrange for an initial assessment session.

Hello. I am a warm, experienced clinical psychologist. I have been working with people with a range of psychological difficulties for over twenty years. I see adults, teenagers and parents. My therapeutic approach is based on a combination of Internal Family System (IFS), Cognitive Therapy (with a base of CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, If you are experiencing intense distress our work may either take the form of a more intensive, time-limited therapy to help you regain a sense of emotional balance. Equally we may work in a more explorative manner better suited to understanding more deep seated emotional difficulties.

We can all experience difficult times in our lives that throw us off course. Sometimes we can also feel that we are operating at 100 miles an hour but getting nowhere fast. Stressed and burnt out you can’t seem to focus properly and day to day living can feel too much, affecting your ability to cope. You can feel so alone and misunderstood, trapped within a vicious cycle of negative thinking and self-criticism. Anxiety, depression and low self-esteem can keep you in a dark place. However, with help and support you can begin to break free and focus on your own needs.

I work with clients who face challenges related to depression, behavioral issues, or trauma stemming from their childhood, relationships, or family.
My name is Franky Dsouza, and I’m a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor working with individuals, couples, and groups. I know reaching out for therapy can feel daunting, especially if it’s your first time. Many people come to me feeling stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves, their relationships, or life in general. Others carry the weight of shame, self-doubt, or past experiences that still shape how they feel today.
I appreciate that it takes courage to ask for help, whether you are navigating a major life transition, healing from trauma, or wanting to strengthen your relationships and coping skills.

I hold a calm, supportive space for you to slow down, breathe, and make sense of what’s happening in your life.
Whether you’re going through difficulties or simply want to understand yourself more deeply, counselling sessions provide an opportunity to pause, reflect on how you got to where you are, and explore where you’d like to go next.
I take a holistic approach, considering all aspects of who you are. In sessions, we’ll explore connections between past and present, identify patterns, and notice how your body and nervous system respond to stress, safety, and relationships that may be keeping you stuck.

I regularly work with people experiencing relationship issues, anxiety, depression, low mood, bereavement, unresolved issues from childhood, loss of confidence and self-esteem.
I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist. I believe that the most important part of therapy is that we build a strong and therapeutic relationship together so that you can feel safe to explore your feelings and concerns. We all have times in our life when we need support and it is not always possible to sort things out with the help of family and friends. I would be there to listen and not judge, in a confidential and caring environment. Counselling can feel daunting but can help to empower you to explore and reflect on ways of making changes and moving forward with your life.

Child Counsellors
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
