Being able to express your feelings or presenting issue may be difficult especially to loved ones, family and friends. I provide therapeutic space for you to reflect, think about and explore difficulties without judgement. Sometimes we can have an idea about what we are struggling with, sometimes we are less sure. Accessing therapy can help us to understand ourselves and give meaning to that which leaves us feeling stuck. Sometimes things that are happening in the here and now can bring up feelings that we have experienced in the past that we may or may not be aware of. This may create discomfort, pain, distress, anxiety, depression and overwhelm. People often describe feeling empty, in darkness, alone, lacking energy and feeling frightened.

I am an experienced UKCP registered, Integrative Psychotherapist and clinical supervisor. My practice is easily accessible close to Leamington Spa town centre. 'Integrative' simply means that I integrate several different models of therapy in my philosophy, offering you a bespoke experience. I also think of integrating the mind, brain and body, restoring harmony as you begin to trust your gut feelings. I have a relational/developmental approach and believe that we develop our sense of self in relationship with significant others. For this reason I place value and emphasis on the therapeutic relationship that we will build together.

You feel like you can’t cope, you’re fed up, you’ve had enough. Your life isn’t what you want it to be. Living has become hard and there’s no joy in your world. It’s like everyone else except you is happy. You’re haunted by your past. You think you’ll never be happy again. You feel alone like no one else understands how hard your life is at the moment. On the outside you look fine but inside you feel like you’re dying. Everything you do feels like an act to look like you’re okay. You don’t know how to change things or what to do about it anymore.

Life can be very challenging and difficult at times and it could leave us feeling powerless or without a control. At those times I believe that being fully heard in an accepting environment can be very healing. In our counselling sessions I will aim to develop a trusting, confidential and save space where you can say the “unsayable” and to open the “unopenable” which can support you in finding clarity and inner peace. From my experience as a counsellor and from the experience of my clients, I appreciate that this explorative journey may feel challenging or emotional at times. I will endeavour to ‘walk on this journey alongside you’.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
