When we feel stuck, experience difficult emotions, or the challenges we are negotiating are distressing, finding a space to work through and move beyond such difficulties can feel overwhelming in itself. Through working together, we will aim to create a space where you can explore, make sense of and manage distress, address challenges, build psychological resilience and mental well-being, while supporting you to develop skills and strategies for long-term mental health benefits.

I use adapted Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and EMDR as my main models.
Are you autistic or wondering if you might be? Maybe your child has received an autism diagnosis or are you waiting for an assessment? Are you feeling unsure what to do next and struggling to find support? Are you or your child experiencing anxiety, overwhelm, melt downs or challenging behaviour? An autism diagnosis is the beginning. There is so much information but no one to guide you through it all. Family and friends try to understand, school try to help but don’t always get it right. You may feel alone, isolated and lonely, unsure who to trust and where to turn.

You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of yourself. Perhaps anxiety or low mood is affecting your daily life, or you’re struggling with relationships, confidence, sleep, or motivation. You might feel caught in unhelpful habits or thought patterns, or sense that something needs to change but aren’t sure where to begin. Often people seek therapy because they want relief from emotional distress, from feeling out of control, or from repeating the same patterns. Beneath that, there is usually a deeper wish to understand themselves better, to feel more at ease, and to live with greater clarity and choice.

Life can present us with unwelcome events at any age. Professional counselling can't change these events but can provide tools and techniques to help minimise their impact. In my practise, counselling is primarily about the relationship between you and me.

I'm a doctor & therapist with a specialist interest in OCD & health anxiety. These are highly treatable (!) problems once we make sense of them. The first step is to understand your issue, including where it has come from & what’s keeping it going. From there, it’s all about change. Together we’ll change your relationship with uncertainty, recalibrate how your brain perceives risk & build confidence in your capacity to cope. If you’re ready & determined to recover, I’d love to help you. Read more about my approach to treating OCD & Health Anxiety on my website (link on my profile).

Accepting, safe and non-judgemental counselling service from an LGBT+ ally - I work towards my clients sensing acceptance, warmth, and safety when joining me in sessions.
I specialise with the LGBT+ community, including their family and friends. I have lived experience of transgender identities, as my son is transgender. I have witnessed the high mental health conditions, suicidal ideation, including self-harm, and loss faced by LGBT+ individuals that I have counselled, along with the hurdles my son has encountered during his transition. I would like to walk with you along your pathway, and consider myself privileged to do so.

I am trained in evidence-based therapies of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and a range of Trauma Focussed Therapy.
There are many experiences that can lead us to start therapy. Perhaps you have been experiencing uncomfortable emotions like anxiety / low mood; difficult or traumatic life events or bereavement; find yourself stuck in relational or behavioural patterns that are no longer serving you; or are struggling with the relationship you have with yourself. These are heavy experiences to carry on our own and in doing so, we may feel stuck in a cycle beyond our control. I am here to help you make sense of what you are experiencing, move towards your valued direction / change and support you to reclaim your life.

I work with children, young people and their families, often when things are feeling difficult or overwhelming. Some of the reasons families have worked with me include: support to understand and manage feelings of anxiety, depression or frustration; difficulties with emotion-regulation; and difficulties within family relationships, including parent-infant and parent-child relationships.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
