I work with people who may have spent sometime feeling like they don’t quite fit, or wondering why life seems harder for them than it does for others. My practice is neuroaffirming and particularly supports people experiencing anxiety, trauma, relationships and low self-esteem. Many of the people I work with are trying to make sense of themselves, their experiences and their relationships, while finding a way to feel more comfortable in who they are.

For example, we might explore your dreams if they hold meaning for you, use sand tray work to connect with different parts of yourself, engage in guided creative imagination ("waking dreams"), or draw on art, music, poetry, or spiritual texts.
I see being a therapist as an immense privilege. I have the opportunity to walk alongside my clients as they navigate life's challenges, deepen their self-understanding, and move towards a more fulfilling way of being. Alongside my broad therapeutic practice, I have developed a particular interest in working with clients experiencing anxiety, relationship difficulties, and questions around identity. I also have specialist experience supporting clients in their masculine and feminine energies, becoming a parent, and LGBTQ+ experiences.

I believe therapy is transformative. I provide a holding and supportive space where all feelings, thoughts and experiences are welcome. I am an integrative counsellor: I draw on a variety of therapeutic approaches depending on your needs. Exploring integration can also mean where our socio-political-cultural context shapes or meets our inner narratives. I adopt an intersectional perspective that invites GSRD and cross-cultural experiences. I maintain a creative, somatic practice and this can feature in therapy when the talking cure feels limited: where the non-verbal feels prevalent or when a ‘rehearsal for life’ feels useful.

Hi, it’s nice to meet you. My name is Pavan. I’m based in London and work online with clients across Europe. I work with individuals tired of pretending they’re fine: thoughtful, capable and outwardly together, yet anxious, burnt out or quietly lost. I offer a deeper, non-clinical space where you don’t have to perform or explain yourself. Shaped by both training and my own therapy, I work gently and honestly. I’m drawn to sensitive, intuitive people who learned to survive by being strong or accommodating. Therapy becomes the place you get to soften and be seen.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
