Life challenges and transitions can make us feel lost, or in a space where we are struggling with a lack of confidence, negative self talk, or self defeating behaviours. During these times we may feel overwhelmed by our feelings and seek to regulate our emotions by processing and understanding what is happening in our internal world. Together we will explore self acceptance and personal growth by developing coping skills which help you to navigate situations that you find stressful.

I am also a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council.
I am a Principal Lead Clinical Psychologist and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist. My approach centres on understanding a person’s individual experience of the world and the problems they’ve come to live with. This involves us working together to try to understand the particular meaning of one’s difficulties and troubling feelings and how and why such distressing experiences have occurred at this point in life. Such understandings often help people feel less troubled and ‘stuck’, for example with depression, anxiety or traumatic experiences, clearing the way for feeling more settled in oneself and an ability to make changes.

Is life feeling tough at the moment? Is everyday feeling the same . .. are you just getting up and pushing through? Do you feel you are not good enough, and compare yourself to others?
Are you worried about world events and how they may impact you?
We can work on your overwhelm, figure out what is beneath it all and why you are feeling this way. We can work on how you would like your life to look and what is stopping it from feeling ok now. We'll work totally in the present or we can look back at your past to see if patterns are emerging and triggering you.
I can help you unpick all of this at your own pace and in confidence.

I am currently the course leader for the Guild's diploma in psychoanalytic supervision.
Yet I also know, as a long-time meditator, that paying attention in a non-judgemental fashion enables previously unbearable experiences to be borne and new possibilities discovered. I provide a safe space in which these experiences can be explored. I also worked for many years in NHS hospitals and understand the challenges of working in large organisations

You may feel that the way you’ve been living—how you handle stress, your relationships, or your inner world—is no longer working. Perhaps you are facing a specific crisis like a loss or a breakdown, or maybe it’s a quieter sense of being "stuck" in patterns you can't quite break. You might feel disconnected from your emotions or exhausted by the weight of old wounds you’ve tried to push aside. Whatever your "external" life looks like, you are here because you want to move beyond just surviving day-to-day.

The path to therapy is often not an easy one. You may be living with persistent anxiety, overwhelm, low confidence, sadness, numbness, or conflict in relationships. You might even feel trapped. This can be a deeply lonely place, especially if you feel misunderstood. It does not have to stay that way. Therapy offers a space where those experiences can be understood and worked with, rather than carried alone.
I welcome clients from all backgrounds and I have a particular understanding of parenting, ADHD, EUPD, men's mental health, and the LGBTQ+ community.

My work is grounded in the contemporary psychoanalytic tradition as well as my ongoing training with the Society for Social and Critical Psychoanalysis.
You may be feeling overwhelmed by anxiety or low mood, struggling with the impact of a loss or past experience, or finding yourself caught in patterns in relationships that are difficult to change. You might also have a sense that something isn’t fully understood — that there are feelings or reactions that don’t quite make sense, even to you.
In my practice, I offer a space to explore these experiences in depth. Rather than focusing only on immediate symptoms, we work over time to understand how certain patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating have developed, and how they continue to shape your life.

Psychoanalytic Counsellors
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.
How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.
Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.
Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
