We can all have difficulties in everyday life and encounter problems that we simply find hard to cope with alone. You may feel worried, anxious, low, confused, isolated or may be experience difficulties in relationships. You may be suffering from feelings of low self esteem or low self confidence. You may have been diagnosed with anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, or maybe you are just feeling sad. When these feelings and thoughts persist and become overwhelming it may be difficult to know which way to turn.

There is no right or wrong personal issue to bring to therapy, it is not always clear why we feel the way we do, or why we keep repeating patterns of relating to others that leave us frustrated, or lonely or confused. Each experience of therapy will be unique, it is an opportunity to explore how and why we may feel the way we do in a supportive space.
I support adult individuals with a range of concerns and struggles, some of the concerns I have been consulted on include difficulties in connecting and relating to others, experiences of loss, parenting, anxiety, isolation, feeling different, identity and depression.

Looking for a therapist can be quite daunting. It's not like looking for an accountant or other professional. The relationship with the therapist is a deeply personal one. That's why I offer an initial free chat to begin with. I am a very experienced psychotherapist and group analyst, with 26 years experience of working in NHS and private practice. I am analytically trained and help you to explore and discover yourself at a deeper level.

Hoarding Counsellors
What is the most effective treatment for hoarding?
Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) has been well-studied in the treatment of hoarding. This type of therapy includes changing beliefs surrounding possessions, as well as learning how to discard items and reduce acquisitions. The hoarder may also gain much-needed organizational skills. Another useful therapy may be compassion-focused therapy, which can address emotion regulation and negative self-perception.
How long does therapy for hoarding take?
Although treatment can vary, most people demonstrate improvement after 23 sessions, with some showing improvement after just a few sessions. Researchers have developed a 26-session cognitive behavioral program. People who hoard may need “maintenance” sessions over the years if the problem arises repeatedly.
Are there medications for hoarding?
The more commonly-prescribed medications for hoarding are including antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This can include drugs such as venlafaxine and paroxetine. And because hoarding disorder is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, medications for OCD, such as clomipramine, may be effective for hoarding as well.
Can hoarding come back after treatment?
Hoarding is a chronic disorder and it can last throughout an individual’s lifetime. Regularly checking in with a psychotherapist can help manage symptoms long-term. A good therapist will help the person learn needed skills including decision-making, organization, and stress reduction. The patient will gain a better perspective and the need to cling to useless items will lessen.
