I value individual differences, honesty, integrity, finding your own path, standing out from the crowd, connection and relationship. I strongly believe people can be empowered to find their own answers. I know that i am not a fixer and i don't have all the answers, although I might have a suggestion or two. I know that I am ok to sit with people in chaos. I can tolerate stuckness and I am not afraid to be afraid, nor walk into a dark place. My aim as a therapist is to create a space where you can explore your difficulties, develop an understanding of where and how these difficulties arise to enable you to find ways to make changes.

Distress in life can bring about: confusion, pain, self-blame, anger, self-blame, isolation, loneliness, negative coping mechanism and many other symptoms. It is important to know that anyone of us can experience mental distress and there are several reasons why this may happen, including: trauma, difficult life events, early life experiences and biological basis. My job is to people make sense of their concerns, and find balance during these difficult times so that they can get to their optimum level of functioning again.

Life can involve upsetting, stressful, or traumatic events that can negatively impact how we think, feel, and behave. You may have anxiety and depression, struggle with low self esteem or have suicidal/intrusive thoughts. You may have problems controlling anger or impulsiveness. Maybe your thoughts or feelings are impacting relationships around you, or vice versa.Whatever the circumstance, I can help you understand yourself and others in a safe and non-judgmental space, for new or long term troubles. I also offer coping techniques to reduce intensity/frequency of negative thoughts, images, and physical sensations (panic attacks etc)

My main work consists of Couples counselling as well as trauma focused work, which includes childhood trauma. The work involves psycho education around brain fragments, where clients work to assess when they are operating from the frontal lobe and when they switch to the limbic system where they are reliving old trauma memories. Since Covid there has been an increased demand for couples work. A lot of work is around working with couples in troubled relationships. I work with children and young people who have experienced trauma and sexual abuse as well as bereavement support work.

I provide a safe, non-judgemental, empathic space to discuss difficulties which may arise due to romantic relationships, family relationships, financial concerns, previous traumatic events and lifespan direction. I aim to support clients to explore what they are finding difficult to gain clarity so that they can move forward confidently. I work within a person-centred framework but also use Cognitive Behavioural techniques where required. I also work within a psychotherapeutic framework where past events may be influencing the present day.

I know from personal experience that counselling can feel like a daunting prospect yet it is also a unique opportunity to focus on what’s important for you. Whether you are feeling anxious, depressed, angry or completely lost, please know there is help and you can find a way to ease the pain of what you are experiencing. I aim to offer you a safe non-judgemental atmosphere to explore your difficulties. Where you can begin to understand how your past experiences have led to behaviour patterns and beliefs that continue to hold you back or cause you distress. Together, we can find a way to alleviate the pain and move forward.

Infidelity Counsellors

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
