I have a deep appreciation and passion for working with adults and children who have experienced trauma. I have a diverse range of skills and experience, such as cross-cultural psychology, immigration, self-esteem and neurodiversity, e.g., autism and ADHD. I walk with my clients through the darkness of their experience, holding the space with compassion, helping them understand their experiences better, make sense of them, accept their whole existence, and fully love and embrace themselves. I believe healing is a process in which both the therapist and the clients contribute and grow together.

Life problems are most often programmed into and manifested in our relationships with ourselves, with others and the world around us. Our early social networks, our personalities, and our environments interact to influence how we view & experience life in the present day and how we habitually respond to it. How we grew up and our world as adults sometimes unknowingly constrain how we can think, feel, and cope with life. My treatment approach aims to give you freedom to live with more purpose, fulfilment, choice to make new decisions, and self-understanding and mastery moving forward.

How would you feel if I told you that you can stop feeling scared, unsafe and overwhelmed ? That you could connect with those around you in an authentic and meaningful way, rather than masking yourself because you fear losing them ? I can tell you this as I have supported many people like yourself, living with complex trauma to let go of the patterns that are keeping them low, anxious, dissociated, paranoid and lonely. I work with people just like you to firstly understand what has happened to them and how the strategies they are currently using have come to be. I then work to introduce new ways of being in the world.

There are seasons in a life when something asks to be understood — a grief that won't settle, an anxiety that shadows the day, a relationship that keeps repeating, or a quiet nagging sense that one is not quite living the life that is truly one's own. You do not always need to know what is wrong to know that something wants attention. My clients are often thoughtful, feeling people who long to understand themselves more deeply — some arriving in pain or crisis, others drawn simply by a wish to live more freely and fully.

I have many years of experience working with a variety of client issues. I believe that we all have the potential to bring about positive change in our lives whatever our past experiences and therefore I always seek to provide hope. It is a particular delight to work with clients who reflect on the sessions between appointments however I am aware that for many individuals attending sessions can be well outside their comfort zone. I therefore adopt a gentle, encouraging approach allowing clients to work at their own pace.

Life is full of events, relationships, stresses and strains and all these impact on us in many different ways. It can affect all the important things to us such as school, work, relationships and our own perception of ourselves. This can be tiring and overwhelming. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be this way and I believe strongly that a person can benefit from having a space to discuss their feelings and develop ideas and strategies to improve their emotional wellbeing.

Everyone faces challenges, dilemmas, fears, problems and issues in their lives. Sometimes we can manage to cope. Sometimes our usual coping methods don't seem to work. We find ourselves struggling and we need someone to talk to, someone who will listen and to somewhere we can talk about our feelings and thoughts and to explore opportunities for change - to get our lives back on track again.

Do you feel stressed and disconnected, moving between numbing and activation, feeling stuck and powerless? Are your relationships and sense-of-self suffering? I would love to help!
My somatically-informed integrative approach seeks to create awareness around emotions and thoughts through gentle curiosity, whilst also taking moments of pause to notice how they have landed in the body. Working out where patterns and blockages can be felt and released through resources like breathwork, grounding, tracking, tapping, self-contact and powerful visualizations.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Counsellors
How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?
Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioural therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behaviour therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.
Are there specific medications for dissociation?
There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom which may include antipsychotics, antidepressants, or anti-anxiety drugs.
How often and how long are therapy sessions?
Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
