Many of my clients are struggling with anxiety, trauma, low mood, or emotional overwhelm. Some are processing past abuse or loss, while others feel stuck or disconnected and want to understand themselves better. You may be seeking relief, clarity, or a calmer mind. Whether you have clear goals or just need someone to talk to, I offer a supportive, non-judgemental space where we can work at your pace. I primarily work with adult individuals and couples aged 18 and over. In some cases, I also see young people aged 14 and above. My trainee therapy dog Coco (puppy) may be present during sessions, unless you would prefer otherwise.

You feel exhausted, anxious, and stuck in a cycle of overthinking. Burnout has drained your energy, while self-doubt and perfectionism hold you back from living fully. You long for calm, clarity, and confidence—yet despite your best efforts, stress and worry keep creeping in. What you want is simple: to quiet your racing mind, feel in control of your emotions, and have the energy to show up for your life and relationships with strength, balance, and peace.

I specialise in working with individuals who have difficulties in managing their emotions and therefore struggle with things like relationships, drinking, substance use, self harming and other impulsive behaviour. You don't need a formal diagnosis to work with me, but I do have a speciality of working with people with personality disorders. I also have lots of experience of working with people who have had traumatic histories and are struggling to manage as a result. This might mean they are depressed, anxious or just finding trusting people hard. As well as these specialities, I also work with all major mental health issues

If you're not sure why you're here, then maybe I can help find out why. You may feel sad or confused, or you may just want to understand what's on your mind.  Therapy can help you explore the issues you are currently having.  Talking to a neutral, non-judgmental person can help you understand your feelings. My approach is flexible, which I believe helps meet the individual's desired outcomes.  I am gentle and self-effacing, and I offer a caring environment to help you openly share your process.

I came to counselling later in life, after many years in a very different career and through my own experience of loss. That shaped the kind of counsellor I wanted to be: someone you can talk to honestly, without feeling judged, analysed or expected to have the right words. I work with adults who may feel anxious, low, overwhelmed, stuck or simply not quite themselves. You may be used to keeping going or looking after everyone else. We can start with what is happening now and make sense of it together.

Hello and welcome to my page! I do hope you enjoy reading about my approach to therapy. I am very passionate about the work that I do and I believe everyone has the right to a peaceful and fulfilling life.  Is this possible?.. I think so and I would love the opportunity to help you to figure that out, whatever that means to you. Are you someone who has been told they are 'too complex'  to work with? Having thoughts of ending your life because things are becoming so hard?  Have you experienced something lately or historically that is causing you some distress? Then I am your woman! I am not afraid to work with anyone who needs help!

I have great experience in helping individuals explore meaningful ways of living. Connecting to their authentic selves, whilst developing more authentic and meaningful relationships. I help individuals and couples to understand what is at the roots of their conflicts and dissatisfaction. Helping explore anger, rejection, disappointment and betrayal. Hot and cold relationships increase individuals insecurities. I help individuals understand what lies underneath their relationship choices, underneath repeated patterns, their fears of genuine intimacy and the dance of intimacy individuals and couples play out in their relationships.

A strong, trusting relationship is, I believe, what makes therapy, therapeutic. Part of my role is to offer the conditions; empathy, acceptance and genuineness which are at the root of cultivating therapeutic alliance. By offering these conditions, I will meet you as a whole person and remain open and curious to what you feel you want to bring to the session. I do not perceive myself as the expert of your life, you are. I will encounter you in the sessions, holding my understanding that you are of inherent worth and value.

Hi, I am Joshua, a professional counsellor and a registered member of the BACP. I understand how daunting it can feel to look for a counsellor and to work out whether someone will feel like the right fit. My aim is to offer a calm, transparent, and supportive starting point, so you have a clear sense of how I work and what you can expect. My approach is relational and integrative, with the therapeutic relationship at the centre of meaningful change. I work in a way that recognises how our experiences are held not only in our thoughts, but also in our bodies and in our patterns of relating to others.

Suicidal Ideation Counsellors
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
