Taking the decision to seek therapy is daunting, but you're here because something is not right. Maybe you know what it is, maybe you're not sure. You may not be certain that you want to talk about it or it might be constantly at the front of your mind, but no-one's listening. You could also be confused about what therapy is or what type you think you might need. Imagine a safe, confidential space where you could talk without any fear of being judged and knowing that the person listening to you will always respond genuinely to you. This is what I will endeavour to offer you if you felt we could work together.

I offer a caring and non-judgmental relationship in which you can explore the issues, experiences, thoughts and feelings that have brought you to seek help. We will explore the situations and challenges you are facing in your life. Speaking about what is difficult is the beginning of feeling better. Core Process Psychotherapy combines the wisdom and compassion of Buddhism with western approaches to psychology. This compassionate and relational approach emphasises our wholeness, and our inherent resilience and balance - however hidden these qualities may sometimes seem. I work with both individuals and couples.

Life can sometimes be difficult. There may be times when we find ourselves experiencing stress, anxiety, panic, or struggling with extremely low moods or bouts of depression. Maybe you find yourself struggling with life's difficulties, often feeling isolated and alone, believing that there isn't anyone you can turn to, including work colleagues, friends or family. Maybe past experience has taught you not to trust anyone with your feelings. Or maybe you find yourself believing that no one truly understands what you are going through.

I offer a non-judgemental, safe environment to help you understand yourself and your life. Counselling can support you to find your own insights, new ways of being with yourself and others, and work towards healing and freedom. It can be a space to get things off your chest, rest or reset, find perspective and understanding in life and relationships, as well as having someone to really hear and be with you as you share and explore what is difficult. My practice is informed by Buddhist philosophy and meditation, which I have been exploring and supporting others with for over 15 years, emphasising embodied awareness and compassion.

I offer space for people who wish to explore fundamental issues. Some people are driven to counselling by a current crisis that means they need support. Others have been managing perfectly well but decide that repeating destructive patterns or underlying dissatisfaction now deserve attention. I hold a Diploma in Integrative Transpersonal Counselling from Re-Vision. This is 'counselling with a soulful perspective'. The strongest influence in the training is Jung. In this perspective, times of real difficulty or despair are seen as holding a potential for change and growth. In our work you will be heard and witnessed.

Many men prefer to work on their part first—without sitting in a room talking about feelings for hours.
I help men reduce stress and anxiety, and to feel more in control—without years of therapy. If you have ADHD (diagnosed or suspected), I understand how it affects relationships and focus. My approach is practical and straightforward, helping you improve communication, feel calmer, and stop second-guessing yourself. Most men notice a shift in a few sessions.

Life can often be seen that we put the needs of others' before our own, therefore neglecting ourselves and experiencing difficult environments and emotions. I offer time for 'you' to explore your own needs and provide this by short or long term therapy, based on your emotional needs. As an integrative therapist, I invite clients to experience different ways of exploring personal experiences and create positive change to the challenges that are faced. The therapy I offer is a process that helps you restore your natural sense of harmony and balance.

Perhaps you're reading this because life is currently throwing some challenges your way. The difficulties that bring us to therapy are different for everyone, but maybe you're feeling stressed or are unable to stop your thoughts from racing, are struggling with sleep, or are finding that life is sadly lacking much joy. Perhaps you feel somehow not quite like your ‘old self’ and you aren't entirely clear why. Talking through what is happening in your life with someone trained to listen (and who is not directly involved in the events you describe) can help at such times. Very possibly it’s your first step in finding a new way through.

I have a range of experience with both women and men, dealing with a wide range of issues.
I work with people who feel ready to address some kind of dis-ease in their lives, whether that is an anxiety, addiction, relationship question or stress-related physical pain. Many of these issues take time to address properly although people often experience relief relatively quickly. I worked as a teacher before becoming a psychotherapist, and still like the Greek word for teaching: pedagogy, which has at its heart the idea of accompanying. I accompany people in-person and online, on their journey; I rarely offer advice but work with people to help them understand themselves, what they want, and the best way forward for them.

Male Counsellors
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
