Welcome. As an experienced Psychotherapist I deal with a vast amount of issues. Are you stressed with your home and/or work problems and find just everyday functioning really difficult. Do you think you should be able to cope? If you've ever wondered whether therapy is "for you", you're not alone. Many people sit with this question for a very long time before deciding to reaching out. Signs that therapy might be helpful - you're overwhelmed or stuck. You're constantly anxious, overthinking everything, your usual ways of coping don't seem to be working anymore. You really don't need to hit 'rock bottom' to start therapy.

I feel that reaching out to talk to someone can be difficult, we may feel a sense of the unknown and therefore I understand that the process may be challenging. On the other hand, you may have spoken to someone before or feel at ease. Either way, through our work together I feel you have the potential to grow, develop, heal and work towards achieving your goals. No experience or issue is too large for us to work through. Therapy provides a time and space for reflection, exploration, support and understanding that we may not readily have in our day to day lives. For this reason, I feel it can hold great value.

I am a Counsellor based in Manchester offering In person and online sessions. Life can be challenging, and in places it can feel intolerable and overwhelming it can be difficult to know where to start unravelling this, how to make changes, what changes, if any, we need to make, and to try to make sense of why we feel the way that we do. This can be a very painful experience but however dark it may be today, doesn't mean tomorrow won't be lighter, counselling can offer an opportunity to be heard and to be understood. I work with clients from all backgrounds but have particular experience working with Addiction and with LGBT+ issues.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling with thoughts and emotions that are difficult to manage on your own. Many people seek therapy when anxiety, stress, or low mood begin to feel too heavy to carry alone. For many men, this can be particularly challenging. Messages such as “man up” or “men don’t cry” can make it harder to open up or ask for support. As a man who has experienced anxiety and depression myself, I understand how difficult this can be. I offer a safe, supportive space where you can talk openly, better understand what you are going through, and begin to move forward.

What truly sets me apart is that I’ve been on both sides of the therapy couch. I know what it’s like to wake up with a racing mind, overwhelmed by the thought of facing the day. I know the loneliness of feeling invisible even when surrounded by people. I know the weight of intrusive thoughts and the relentless exhaustion of carrying childhood wounds into adult life. I’ve experienced intensive therapy for anxiety and trauma, and I’ve come through it. This means that when I sit with you, I’m not just relying on textbooks or clinical theory. I meet you with real understanding and absolutely no judgment. I get it, because I’ve lived it!

My name is Ash and I'm a psychodynamic counsellor based in Manchester. My practice works with a range of issues, with a focus on the complex connections between behavior, relationships, existential concerns, desires, and early life experiences. Such work may allow you to explore how elements of your own life intertwine and influence one another. I also practice LGBTQ+ affirmative counselling that is grounded in respect and curiosity. You may wish to begin counselling as a way to get closer to an underlying reason or source of your struggle, and in doing so, safely process in order to heal. I offer in-person and online sessions.

My clients are adults, young people and children carrying something they haven't been able to put down — anxiety that won't quieten, grief that hasn't had space, trauma that still shapes the present, or simply a feeling that something needs to change. They come with depression, low mood, confidence issues, anger, addiction, pregnancy and infant loss, and the particular pressures men face but rarely talk about. They come from Anfield, Kirkdale, Everton, Bootle, Liverpool and across the UK online. Many have never spoken to a counsellor before. Some don't know exactly what's wrong — only that they're not okay. That's enough to start.

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
