I invite you to deepen with me. As we begin to form a relationship of trust, honesty and integrity, we may experience a collaborative unfolding. Together, we will navigate your emotional landscape; paying compassionate attention to the energy that arises between us. Most, if not all of our pains and challenges in this life arise from an injurious relational experience. As such, entering a relational therapeutic encounter offers opportunity for these wounds to present themselves within a culture of trust and safety. Let our relationship become not just a training ground, but a space to process the grief that holds so many of us back.

I am an honest, compassionate counsellor offering the kind of down-to-earth no-nonsense approach I would have appreciated when I attended therapy. I was a skeptical client, now turned therapist, so I have some idea of what you might be feeling. I firmly believe that you will have been trying your best to live a good life (whatever that means for you), but we all need help and support at times. When you’re feeling anxious or depressed it can be tempting either to desperately power on through or to hide away, perhaps making matters even worse. As I learned myself, asking for help is not a weakness; it's a strength.

Psychotherapy can help support you with a range of concerns. You could be feeling troubled by something in your life. You could be feeling low or anxious, perhaps from a bereavement, trauma or abuse. You may find it difficult to sustain healthy relationships. You may be experiencing chronic pain, an addiction to something that is doing you harm, or trying to come to terms with a frightening medical diagnosis. You may also hope to understand and love yourself and others better, to become more authentic, to understand the pain of being human, or to seek spiritual fulfilment.

Most people find themselves in dark or confusing places at times throughout their lives, questioning who they are, wrestling with difficult questions, trauma, illness, addiction or bereavement. Sometimes people don't have anyone to share these challenges with or can't share them with those close to them. Despite proverbs about sharing problems, as a society we don't really encourage people to open up. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to do this. I hope to offer a space in which you can feel safe and respected while you explore these challenges and move towards improved mental well being.

Not sure where to start? don't know exactly what's wrong, but just know that you feel stuck, unable to cope or move forward with things?. It takes courage to take that first step with counselling, and this first step is the hardest bit, I know, as I've been there. But with the right counsellor, therapy gives you the safety and luxury to put yourself first and explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions; it can help you to put things into perspective and make positive changes to your life. Taking those next steps can often leave you feeling nervous and confused; but its my aim to make the whole process as easy as possible for you

I think it is difficult finding the right help at the right time. You might have had some therapy that didn’t help as much as you'd hoped. So why work with me? Talking therapy can be very beneficial, but some clients need more than that. We all have experienced difficult times, but sometimes it gets "frozen in time". Do you sometimes feel that ALL your problems " are on repeat"? I am a fully qualified Trauma Therapist who offers EMDR, EFT and CBT. These are powerful modalities which can help you with issues like traumatic memories, c-PTSD symptoms, flashbacks, depression, anxiety, nightmares, pain, panic attacks, OCD.

Investing in yourself can sometimes feel hard to do, you can always convince yourself that other things or people are more worthy but investing in counselling will be the greatest gift you can give yourself and can change your life. Counselling can be accessed for a number of reasons, something really specific may have happened or you might just have feelings you want to understand more, or behaviours you want to change. Whatever it is, we can explore things together so you can understand yourself better and put steps in place so you can live a more positive, happy and fulfilling life.

Anxiety, no matter whether it focuses on life's uncertainties, social situations, health, trauma, phobias or lack of self-confidence, can really make everything feel difficult and overwhelming. Maybe it affects you so much that you end up not doing all the things you want to do because your 'what if' thinking makes everything feel impossible. However, it does not have to be this way and therapy with me can help you find strategies to manage your anxiety, make changes and do what you want to do in life. Through using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), we can work together to manage your concerns and reduce catastrophic thinking.

Please leave a contact number with your enquiry. Hi, my name is Jonny, and I am a fully qualified psychosexual and relationship therapist registered with COSRT. Embarking on a therapeutic journey can initially feel daunting, but it can become a life-changing and affirming experience. It is my job to provide a safe, empathetic, and non-judgemental space to explore whatever issue is troubling you, although engaging in therapy can be hugely beneficial even without a specific problem.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
