You might be struggling with relationships or work stress, perhaps you have anxiety or depression, you could be going through life changes like a bereavement or retirement. Maybe you simply feel stuck in a rut and unfulfilled. Whatever you are going through I can offer a safe, warm space to express your feelings with someone who will understand. With my support you can explore how to make positive changes or adjust to life circumstances and move forward. The link between psychological stress and physical poor health is clear, so making your emotional well-being a priority has lasting benefits in preventing future health problems.

I invite you to deepen with me. As we begin to form a relationship of trust, honesty and integrity, we may experience a collaborative unfolding. Together, we will navigate your emotional landscape; paying compassionate attention to the energy that arises between us. Most, if not all of our pains and challenges in this life arise from an injurious relational experience. As such, entering a relational therapeutic encounter offers opportunity for these wounds to present themselves within a culture of trust and safety. Let our relationship become not just a training ground, but a space to process the grief that holds so many of us back.

Many people find it helpful when faced with difficult stages in their normal life cycle such as career changes, loss and bereavement or crisis points in relationships.
With my brother diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia nearly 30 years ago, I have personal experience of the family sacrifices and struggles related to the pain and stigma of mental illness. Having since, committing my life to the improvement of people’s emotional fitness and mental resilience, with support from organisations such as SANE and MIND, my own journey has allowed me to discover the true benefits of therapy first-hand. Personal therapy is proving invaluable for people to manage certain difficult or crisis situations in their lives and so transform their problems into major opportunities for personal growth.

In your counselling sessions, you are not your job, the roles you have played in life, nor the mistakes you’ve made in the past .
Hi, I’m Helen, I offer an open and inclusive space to over-thinkers and high achievers, whether they’re individuals or couples. Those with the feeling that whilst life might (or might not!) look good, something is missing. Most of my clients come to me feeling one of the emotions below: A loss of sense of who you are – or not feeling seen or heard. Stress, anxiety, overthinking and loss of connection. Loneliness and a feeling like you’re not valued anymore. Feeling so overwhelmed with responsibilities that you can no longer find happiness Curious about how you can improve or refresh your relationship.

Within my practice I provide a safe, non-judgemental, professional and confidential environment in which you can explore whatever you feel necessary. Through exploring these issues, we can both begin to understand what is happening and why. This process can assist in self-understanding which in-turn boosts self-confidence and compassion. With this knowledge you may then become empowered to make the necessary changes needed in your life to address whatever has been causing the discomfort.

I am a very experienced and professional therapist with over twelve thousand client contact hours behind me in individual, couples and group work. I feel my experience coupled with my life experiences makes me the person and the therapist I am today. My training in the person-centred approach (three years) and in Transactional Analysis (seven years) together with continuing professional and personal development and supervision give me a strong theoretical and experiential focus to bring to my client work. I work very much in a relational way (research indicates that the therapeutic relationship is key to positive therapy outcomes)

Has the time come for you to consider change? Are you ready to take that step? Perhaps you've been affected by a loss, or lifestyle changes which are hard to accept. Sadness or feelings of isolation may be overwhelming, you may find that a warm, safe and non judgemental space where you can share your story may be powerful. I am an enthusiastic advocate for positive emotional wellbeing and I believe that therapy is not a luxury, but an essential tool to empower and promote positive change and self awareness.

Career Guidance Counsellors

How do I know if I need career counselling?

Determining whether a career counsellor is needed involves assessing one's current career and identifying what changes can be made to improve one's overall quality of life. In particular, feelings of loss of motivation, fatigue, anxiety, depression, procrastination, or ongoing levels of high stress can all be indicative of a need for career-related counselling. In addition, individuals changing jobs may want the decision-making support or self-reflection opportunities provided by a career counsellor.

Who can benefit from career counselling?

Anyone can benefit from the self-reflection, skill development, and stress management techniques that career counselling can provide. However, individuals who are feeling overwhelmed or burnt out with their current job and individuals considering a major career change may particularly benefit from career counselling to improve their wellbeing. Additionally, individuals who are facing issues in their current job, such as coworker relationship challenges or not meeting performance goals, may benefit from the perspective that a career counsellor can provide. College-age or young professionals may also uniquely benefit from career counselling as they make key decisions surrounding education and job training that will impact their career trajectory.

How long does career counselling typically last?

The length of career counselling can vary greatly depending on the needs of the individual and what type of support they are seeking Career coaching or advising services—which serve clients in a specific, goal-oriented capacity—often last for a shorter duration and are sometimes only a single session or a few sessions in length. In contrast, career counselling as part of a more integrative therapeutic relationship with a counsellor may last longer, particularly if the issues faced by the client are longstanding and/or more complex in nature; in such cases, individuals may expect therapy to last multiple months or longer.

How to prepare for career counselling?

Clients can prepare for career counselling sessions by outlining the specific topics they would like to address with the counsellor, such as current job challenges or hopes for the future of their career. Compiling one's thoughts on such topics often requires reflection on one's career and future goals, which in itself can be beneficial for session preparation. Clients may also want to put together a list of questions they would like to ask the counsellor, particularly if the career counsellor they are seeing has particular expertise in a given career area. Conducting research into potential future jobs, training opportunities, or support resources in one's area may also help clients prepare for career counselling by providing them with a background of what resources are available in their area.
