Ive trained in Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis, CBT, Gestalt & Person centred therapy.
Hi. At times we are challenged in life and we may need help to work through the issues that can affect us. Whatever we are experiencing, it can impact on our whole life greatly. At times admitting we need help can be a long and hard journey and just getting to this point of looking for a therapist means you’ve addressed so much already and that you wish to take the next step. It's finding the right therapist for you, just like any other relationship is how you connect that enables you to feel safe and be open so you can work through your issues. So take your time to find the right one as that relationship can help you so much.

I am trained in the Person-Centred approach which is a form of talking therapy, however I do practice in an integrative way, for example using CBT ( Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) approaches.
We all experience different challenges at different times throughout our lives. This can be overwhelming and sometimes hard to process alone. Counselling is a safe place to explore life events and the emotions, thoughts and behaviour they bring with them, in a non-judgmental and confidential environment. Together we can unearth the way you want to think, feel or act; your future goal, and as a team we can work towards achieving autonomy. Through the supportive and empathic working space I provide, on a one to one basis, we can address issues past and present and uncover useful coping mechanisms to embrace challenges old and new.

The integrative part is the modalities I use some of which are a combination of CBT, Psychodynamic, compassion and Trauma focused.
Hi, I'm Joshua, a professional psychotherapist and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I know how daunting it can be to look for a counsellor, or finding who will match your needs and expectations. So I will talk you through how I work and what I can offer you, to hopefully take away any confusion and make your search a little easier. I am located at Nostell Priory in Wakefield.

Qualified to MSc level alongside a BSc in Psychology with an additional qualification in CBT.
Experiencing major changes can be daunting, frustrating and generate fear alongside self-doubt. If you are looking to make changes, face up to change, explore identity and self-esteem or have reached your limits in one or more life areas then you don't have to face this alone. You will have control over your therapy and gain a voice as well as perspective. If you are willing to make the most of what you learn in therapy then you are more likely to make progress that lasts and changes your life for the better. I offer Clinical Supervision and outdoor therapy too. I have worked for GPs, IAPT, hospitals and EAPs.

Predominantly trained in Person-Centred Therapy, I take on an blended way of working using low-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy in sessions, where appropriate.
I work with highly sensitive adults who want to make sense of their emotions, rebuild self-trust, and regain the confidence to show up in their lives authentically. If you often feel like your emotions are overwhelming, like the anxiety is always just below the surface, or low mood makes it hard to get through the day I see you. Maybe you find yourself overthinking every decision or doubting your worth, unsure if you can trust your own instincts because you've learned to silence how you're feeling and get on with it. You might feel disconnected from yourself, as though the world is moving too fast and you're struggling to keep up.

By combining CBT, DBT, ACT and Person-Centred theory, we will work together to name feelings, understand reactions, and build the tools they need to navigate daily stress, peer conflict, meltdowns and life changes.
Is your teen constantly frustrated, angry, or overwhelmed, often struggling to explain why? Do big emotions take over, making relationships harder and school feel like a battlefield? You're not alone—and neither are they. I help young people who feel stuck, misunderstood, or on edge. Whether it’s anger outbursts, friendship drama, anxiety around school or social media, or just that heavy, "everything's too much" feeling, I create a calm, creative space where teens can safely explore what's really going on underneath it all. If detentions, meltdowns, or shut-downs are the norm, let's change that story.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?

Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
