I work with adult men and women of all ages anywhere in the UK offering online video and telephone counselling. Quite a lot of us, at some stage in our lives, have been in a situation where we have nobody around us we can talk to. Even though you may have family and friends who care about you, you can still feel alone and isolated or feel that you do not want to ‘bother’ or ‘burden’ them with your feelings.

If you’re looking into an ADHD assessment for yourself, your child, or your teenager - you’re probably doing it because things feel harder than they “should.” Maybe focus is a constant battle, mornings and routines are chaos, school feels like a daily struggle, or work and life admin are piling up no matter how hard you try.

I am a dual US-UK citizen and spent many years in a demanding corporate environment before qualifying as a UKCP and BACP registered psychotherapist. Having lived and worked in the UK for over 22 years, as well as abroad, I bring a considered understanding of psychological pressures across professional, cultural, and personal contexts. Many clients are outwardly confident and performing well, yet feel overwhelmed or burnt out. I work with leaders and professionals in demanding roles, as well as older adolescents in high-achieving academic environments.

As we begin to emerge from this challenging time, many relationships will be feeling the strain. Couple or individual counselling, either face to face or online can make such a difference, as we explore concerns and find effective ways forward.

You’re successful on paper, but inside you’re exhausted. Many women in leadership find themselves struggling with self doubt, an inner critic that never switches off, or the fear of being found out. Burnout and exhaustion can creep in when you’re expected to excel at work while also holding everything together at home. Past experiences of being overlooked or underestimated may resurface in the workplace, leaving you second guessing your voice or decisions. And the constant balancing act between ambition and wellbeing or resilience and vulnerability can leave you feeling depleted, stretched thin, and alone.

A big part of my work is with adults who have suffered adverse childhood experiences or childhood emotional neglect. If this is you and you feel that you are struggling to cope because you are still carrying around the childhood adaptations you used to protect yourself, traits such as people pleasing, being afraid to try, afraid to use your voice, perfectionism traits, not being able to take criticism to name but a few. I have seen people turn their lives around when they have addressed these issues so if this speaks to you please contact me for a consultation. Don't let your past ruin your future it doesn't have to be this way.

Matt is a nationally recognised expert in child behavioural problems, attachment and parenting as well as the mental health needs of adopted, fostered and care experienced children.
Matt is especially interested in the way in which child factors contribute to parenting challenges and how evidence-based approaches can be modified to take these into account. While standard evidence-based parenting programs work well for many families, research shows a failure to assess child factors can undermine their effectiveness for some families.

I am a BACP registered integrative therapist using a variety of approaches depending on the needs of each client. My approach is collaborative, practical and personal. I believe that human beings are naturally resilient and have an incredible capacity for change in the right supportive environment. We are often held back by our limiting core beliefs and by bringing awareness to our repeated patterns of behaviour, we can identify areas where we are “stuck” and are held there by our core beliefs. My aim is to help clients make space for new possibilities and new ways of being by challenging these limiting core beliefs together.

I am experienced in working with children, young people, and parents and carers in school settings, charities and online.
My specialism in Arts Therapy means that I can help people express themselves beyond the spoken word. Sometimes, words are not enough to fully express the deeper emotions lying beneath the surface. During the sessions, I may use a number of art forms for therapy such as: · Sandplay · Paints & pencils · Puppetry · Storytelling · Poetry · Music · Movement

Parenting Counsellors
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
