Healing trauma takes time, and a truly trauma-informed approach. Many of us carry invisible wounds from childhood: the hypervigilance from growing up walking on eggshells, the self-criticism derived from caregivers who couldn't regulate their own emotions, or the deep sense of not being enough despite our achievements. Complex and developmental trauma doesn't always look like what people expect, but it lives in our bodies and shapes how we see ourselves and the world.
I'm Shabnum, a trauma specialist who understands these struggles both professionally and personally.

Are you baffled by your relationship with a narcissist?
Are you exhausted by the mind games, gaslighting, and deceit?
Have your friends grown tired of hearing you talk about the same issues?
Don't worry, you're not alone. Narcissistic abuse is real and NOT all therapists get it. Narcs are sly, conniving, and incredibly devious. Until you've experienced their abuse, it's hard to understand. This often leads to victims feeling increasingly isolated, which exacerbates the narcissist's control and creates fertile ground for further abuse. It's no wonder such relationships compromise your sanity.

My main treatment approaches are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy ( ACT) and EMDR.
I am passionate about helping clients intercept 'stuck' cycles by finding new ways of adjusting and coping. Many of the clients that I work with find themselves struggling with life demands or what the World Health Organisation (WHO) typically defines as 'burn-out' (ICD-10). Quite often they feel overwhelmed, depleted and unable to find an obvious solution to their problem. They find themselves chronically ruminating about the past or worrying about the future, leading to vicious cycles of depression and anxiety. These clients require a specialised therapist who can offer brief, effective treatment.

Your OCD will be understood and treated from multiple angles (CBT/ERP, ACT and EMDR).
You've tried everything to "fix" your OCD. You've read self-help books, googled all sorts, promised to try harder tomorrow. But here's what you've discovered: the more you fight it, the worse it gets. The checking spirals. The avoidance spreads. The intrusive thoughts get louder and louder. You're exhausted from battling your own mind, and you're wondering if maybe you're just broken. Here's the truth: you're not broken. Your brain is doing exactly what brains do, it's trying to keep you safe, just in a not so useful way. The pathways back to the life you want are still there; you just need someone who can help you see them again.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
