We may have experienced a major change in our lives, such as loss which comes in so many different forms, such as relationships, work, experiencing a long term illness, the death of a loved one or even losing our sense of who we are.
Counselling is a talking therapy that helps unravel and unpick those very difficult feelings we are having. It is a unique space and relationship allowing us to really be heard and really hear our own voices above all others, without judgement. It allows us an opportunity to make sense out of what we have or are experiencing and explore a new way of being.

Do you feel like you’re "managing" life rather than living it? Perhaps you’re waiting to feel like your "old self" again, only to realize that version of you no longer fits. Whether you are navigating the profound identity shifts of the perinatal period or processing long-standing trauma, the path forward isn't always about going back—it’s about discovering who you are now. You might feel stuck in cycles of perfectionism or burnout, tired of performing for others. You’re looking for a space to exhale, integrate your experiences, and safely begin the process of becoming your next, more authentic self.

In the maze of life's unexpected challenges, I commend your courage in seeking support. I often liken our struggles to a bag of jigsaw puzzle pieces; in counseling, we empty these pieces onto the table and begin turning them right side up. Together, we navigate this intricate puzzle, allowing you to choose which piece to tackle first. It would be my privilege to accompany you on this journey of self-discovery, offering guidance and support as you unravel the mysteries of your life's puzzle.

Hello and thanks for stopping. I love what I do. 'Extremely easy to talk to'...'turned things around for me'...'helped save my life' being just a few client comments. I've been qualified since 2013; during that time I've worked with serving police officers and civilian staff at Merseyside Police, those supported by Victim Support Homicide Service, VI Form students, Occupational Health & EAP clients. I know that being a counsellor was always meant for me because I have an affinity with people and being able to be 'with' them. This and my life experience gives me the most perfect grounding to be the best that I can be for my clients.

Maybe you are struggling to cope with a bereavement, relationship issues or loneliness?
Thinking of getting help is a big step but a positive one. Despite my main approach being person-centred counselling, I am able to use other therapies where and when appropriate, tailored to each client. I consider myself to be a supportive, compassionate person and know from my own experiences the impact of personal challenges and how they can affect us.

I work in a person-centred manner which means that I value building a positive relationship with clients; working to create a safe and comfortable therapeutic environment. This means that I want you to feel able to talk and express yourself about anything that may be troubling you. We talk about whatever you chose, and you can do so without fear of judgement. This enables you to become more comfortable with things as you discuss your thoughts freely, giving you an opportunity to consider things from different perspectives and over time building your confidence to explore different options and possibilities that are open to you.

We tend to suffer from anxiety, stress, and depression for too long before reaching for help, which can lead to unnecessary suffering. It takes courage to start therapy, and it takes courage to confront our problems. ‍ What I offer you is a calm and supportive environment in which you will be able to deal with any difficulties you are experiencing, with the professionalism that you deserve.

I have expertise in bereavement and loss, low self esteem or self confidence as well as many other issues.
You may have many friends and relations, but find it difficult to talk to them about your most private worries or concerns. If you are looking for someone whose sole relationship with you is to discuss issues causing you stress, or anxiety, or depression then counselling may help. I am a person-centred counsellor, which means I place an emphasis on helping you to build your resilience and confidence when issues arise in your to day to day life. As a counsellor I do not judge your thoughts, feelings or actions, but rather help you to understand these for yourself.

Palliative care & bereavement.
I am a counsellor and registered general nurse specialising in occupational health, and my priorities have been about the physical and psychological care of my patients and clients. I use the biopsychosocial model to support clients' biological, psychological and social experiences and issues. I listen to why the client feels they need therapy, and we discuss the most appropriate way forward which may include, for example, CBT or solution-focussed therapy. I am welcoming and trustworthy and my approach to clients is irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, race or religious beliefs.

My name is Liz and I am an experienced, integrative counsellor, supervisor and lecturer. I am very personable and use humour and warmth with all my clients. I will never promise to solve my clients problems but I do promise to work in a respectful and ethical way, helping clients move through what is often the most difficult time in their life. This may be a solution focussed approach or a more person centred one, working delicately with the client's feelings.

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
