The clients who seek me out for therapy range from acutely distressed to curious about gaining insight into "what makes them tick". Some know what issues they wish to focus on and are seeking help in achieving them, others are not sure what the issues are but know that they are not living their life to their full potential. Some want to work short term on a specific issue and others want a longer term therapeutic relationship in which to explore their lives in greater detail. As an integrative therapist I will adapt to your needs as far as I am able and will ensure that you know about other options that could be open to you.

Are there parts of yourself you don't like anymore or that feel lost, wounded or ashamed? Are you suffering from disconnection, anxiety, low mood, addictive behaviours, interpersonal conflict or fatigue? My integrative therapeutic approach aims to re-connect you with your authentic Self and from this place heal and integrate into wholeness all 'parts' of yourself in a compassionate and non-judgemental way. As an Internal Family Systems therapist I work at the intersection of physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual sickness with a focus on somatic; transpersonal; and nature based / animistic approaches.

Hi, my name is Liz. Welcome to my profile. I work with clients to help them really understand why they are thinking, feeling and behaving in the way they are. Past and present events and experiences influence how we feel about and therefore treat ourselves which then impacts on all relationships in our lives. By understanding where these thoughts come from and why you may have such huge emotional and physical reactions or equally such suppressed feelings you can change the way you behave towards yourself and others. I would like to help you make the changes you need so that you can lead a healthy, happy and fulfilling life

My approach is to offer a safe and non-judgemental space in which you can explore the experiences in your life that are causing you difficulty, or those areas that you wish to take a deeper look at in order to understand more fully. There are no areas or issues that are excluded from our therapy sessions and I will meet you with compassion and curiosity, inviting a present moment exploration of your feelings, thoughts and experiences.

We are all unique individuals. I see people who suffer from anxiety, depression, addictions, relationship difficulties and trauma as well as other difficulties. I will aim to help you make sense of what is currently going on for you and then to set goals or a way forward.. I believe that clients need to experience compassion and kindness as well as often, a structured way of working with specific difficulties. If structure is less of a goal and need, I aim to provide a settling in which trust is foremost and so creating a safe space to talk about difficult emotions.

I view mental health as something that all human beings struggle with to varying degrees at various times. The extent to which this is experienced depends on the individual and their own set of life experiences, personal and family history, and genetic-biological make-up. Thus, I incorporate all of these elements into my work.

Do you feel ripped apart and shaken to your core? You don't want to be a burden to friends and can't talk to family, it is all so overwhelming. The deepest pit of despair and hurt, mixed emotions, anguish, anger, confusion, barely coping with intense non-stop life changes. Loss of family, partner or treasured friends, sudden or chronic terminal illness, loss of the person you used to be, ageing, guilty lifestyle, fear of a new job and moving, or the prickling heartache from loss of your pet. You don’t even have the strength to take the next step, to pull yourself through while trying to reach your old self. You need a safe space.

18 years experience as a Psychotherapist. Online Counselling provided for those isolated at home. It’s very normal to need help when life is challenging or distressing. Such upsets might be because of loss, anxiety, depression or maybe due to childhood neglect, abuse or trauma. Some people simply want to learn more about themselves. Whatever the reason, counselling is a way to help you discover more of who you are, your resilience, find strength and determine a successful strategy that works for you.

The way that a human life unfolds can bring challenges, and these may become stressful or overwhelming at times for almost anyone, which prevents us from living happy and meaningful lives. Very often a few effective sessions of the solutions-based therapy I offer can make a positive shift on the route to a balanced life again. My aim is to get you back in control, and enjoying life again. I have a wide experience of life to share, in a family setting, in business and in work of all kinds. By working with you to regain those central human needs which have temporarily gone missing, improvements usually follow quickly.

Having experienced at first hand the hugely positive impact counselling has had on my own life, I chose to train as a psychodynamic therapist to help others experience the same profound benefits. I now use an integrative approach, which has enriched my work with clients. Working with you, we will together examine and uncover often unconscious or repressed memories which in turn can drive unhelpful patterns of behaviour. We will explore the sources of your problems and aim to deal with the underlying issues, not just try to find a way to cope with them. Only by making peace with the past can you look forward to a happy future.

LH Counselling and Psychotherapy
Psychotherapist, MSc, BACP
It is common to experience emotional distress in life from time-to-time, but sometimes we need help with managing this. Difficulties can range from a general feeling of low mood or anxiety, the pressure of challenging life events such as loss or relationship-breakdown, or coming to terms with historical events. As a qualified Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, I will provide a safe and supportive environment so that you feel able to explore your current thoughts and feelings by drawing from past experiences. From here, we can try to understand their impact on your present, and consider how you might wish to move forward.

Most people enter therapy with the entirely understandable aim of addressing and easing current symptoms of distress (depression, anxiety, difficulties sustaining intimate relationships etc) and receiving reassurance and comfort when life seems hard to bear. But I believe that we also need to explore deeper; that it is only by getting underneath these symptoms and trying to understand them and where they come from that real and lasting change can take place. I see the relationship between client and therapist as central and the process as a collaborative journey undertaken by us both.

How can I find a therapist in Uckfield?
Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
