I am an experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor working with children and teenagers, from differing ages and levels of understanding, using creative interventions like art and play.
For the past 5 years, this has been within counselling and psychotherapy, as I’ve worked alongside young people to explore their current situations and experiences, helping to identify concerns and bring about any changes they hope for.

Most clients, both adults and children find my approach insightful and creative.
Life can become too much sometimes. Maybe you’ve tried to carry on as normal, pushing things down or telling yourself “others have it worse.” But the truth is, if something is hurting you, it matters. I work with people who want to understand themselves better, especially how their early life or relationships have shaped how they show up in the world today. Perhaps you’ve reached a point where you’re asking, “Why do I feel like this?” or “Why does it keep happening?”—and you’re ready to find out.

I work with adults, teenagers, and children, both 1:1 and in group settings.
Whilst I originally trained as an Art Psychotherapist, working creatively doesn’t mean that you need to be “good at art” - it’s a chance for us to create a new, shared language with one another, which might not always rely on words when words are hard to find.

I have been working in private practice for the past year, supporting children, teens, and adults across a range of emotional and relational challenges.
You might look like you’re coping on the outside, but inside your mind doesn’t switch off. You may find yourself overthinking conversations, second-guessing decisions, or stuck in patterns like people-pleasing and self-doubt. I work with young people and adults who feel overwhelmed by anxiety and unsure of themselves. In our work together, we can begin to understand these patterns and help you feel calmer, more confident, and more in control. Therapy with me is a safe, supportive space where we go at your pace and focus on what matters most to you.

I’m Anna, a friendly CBT therapist specialised in children, adolescents and young adults aged 5-25.
CBT is a well researched and effective treatment for anxiety and depression. I focus on using proven techniques and adapt them to the person's age and individual differences (e.g. neurodiversity). While CBT forms the foundation of my work, I balance practical strategies with space for reflection, self understanding and personal growth.

I work with a very diverse range of issues, including neurodiversity, and if something is causing you to worry or feel low, whatever it might be, we can see if counselling can help you. FAQ - About Child Therapy
When does a child need to see a therapist?
Children naturally experience emotional ups and downs. Sometimes, though, they need support from a professional. A child may benefit from therapy if their emotions or behaviours change significantly within a short period of time. For example, if a child usually spends time with friends after school but begins isolating in their room, further inquiry is warranted. Other areas for concern include altered sleep patterns, lack of appetite, intense anger, irritability, or hopelessness, or developmental regression in young children (bedwetting, thumb-sucking).

What can a child therapist help with?
A therapist can help with any difficult experience a child may encounter growing up, including learning problems or anxiety related to school, relationship challenges with friends or parents, bullying, intense emotions or phobias, divorce and family dynamics, or the death of a pet or loved one. A therapist can help children process their experience and develop coping skills in an age-appropriate way

What therapy types are most suitable for children?
Children can benefit from different forms of therapy, including family therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and exposure therapy, depending on their condition. Play therapy is a great option for younger children who may not be able to fully articulate their feelings. In this approach, kids play with toys and games while a therapist observes and helps the child express their emotions and develop coping skills.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
