My ideal client is someone who will be honest with me in order for us to work together. I enjoy working with clients who are not really sure why they feel the way they do, but know that something is not quite right and feel the need to investigate this further. I have a particular interest and expertise in working with clients who have anxiety , depression, lack of self confidence and body image issues along with relationship difficulties. I work with clients to identify their needs and goals to create a unique personal treatment plan in order for them to reach their goals within a sensible time frame.

I have experience working with: anxiety , depression, panic attacks, addiction, eating disorders, self-harming, low self esteem and grief, amongst other issues.
I offer a safe and confidential space where you will have the chance to share your problems, your difficult feelings, your pain and your life story. Talking about our life honestly and openly, with an empathic and non-judgemental therapist can be a deeply healing process. Having a space where we can be fully ourselves, where we’re invited to slow down, breathe and investigate our inner world and our emotions is necessary, today, more than ever. We live busy lives and for many, it is difficult to stop and notice, most of the time, what is going on inside us. As we reconnect to our feelings and our essence there is an immediate sense

I specialise in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) which has been shown to help in a range of situations, such as anxiety and depression.
We all are subject to emotions like low moods, worries and frustrations; it’s all part of being human, the brain we inherit and the effect of our environment. However, when these emotions turn chronic, exaggerated and persistent, we suffer from situations like depression, anxiety and anger, which impact on our lives and well-being. These emotions spill over, adversely affecting our goals and relationships at home and at work

I will offer you the opportunity to safely share your thoughts, your anxieties and your fears so that we may work together as you find your way to a calmer and more hopeful way of being.
I am a qualified therapeutic counsellor supporting people who are anxious or grieving, frightened, lonely, struggling with sadness or in distress. I offer a warm and genuine welcome, an open heart and mind and time & space to be with you, to be alongside you for as much time as you need. After working as a paramedic for over 10 years I decided I wanted to retrain as a counsellor. I have continued to work for the NHS and find that people can be surprisingly resilient with the right emotional support.

I work with both individuals and couples. The skill-sets and experience I offer draw off a variety of professional trainings such as Internal Family System (IFS) and Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO) . These approaches are known to bring about the transformative healing qualities and resources that exist inside people. These are therapies that makes difficult experiences possible, such as: trauma, phobia or anxiety . I am here to help people better relate with what humans experience, I’ve witnessed and learned this is evidently possible through therapy.

I have counselling experience in many fields, including loss & bereavement, self-worth, anxiety & depression, spiritual problems, work-related issues, relationships, life goals.
What do you need? It is sometimes helpful to ask yourself - "What are my main goals as I go for counselling? What is important to me right now? How would I like to change?" Often all someone needs is some quality time and space to be able to be themselves, and be heard - not feeling judged no matter what they say, and feel some compassion from somebody who cares. In the busy world in which we live, I provide that space for you to unwind, off-load and rediscover who you are, as well as deal with the problems you are experiencing - and change.

Our true nature is free, flowing, wild and energetic. Childhood traumas create defences, because our survival instinct was so strong it protected us at all costs. The cost is our experience now, disconnection from our-self, our body, others, life. Resulting in difficult relationships, low self-esteem, anxiety , depression and self harming behaviors. The decision to come to therapy is a brave one, it is a statement to yourself and the Universe that you no longer want to just survive, but to live with more ease, connection and aliveness. The therapeutic relationship encourages this life force energy, giving space for wholeness to grow.

Our counselling offers help in addressing the difficult areas of your life. This might involve loss and grief, relationship troubles or problems at work. Equally, there are times when the cause is not clear but you still feel something is wrong. Colleagues, family and friends can be a great source of support but it's not always easy to confide in those closest to you. At times like these, talking to someone who is not personally involved can make a difference. A professional counsellor will listen to you without making judgments and can help you find new resources within yourself.

Occasionally it helps to review and reflect on life's pathway. It can be hard to do this by ourselves, our friends and family may feel too close to confide in. It can be helpful to explore our feelings and emotions in a safe, non-judgmental environment, I can provide this in a relaxing, quiet therapeutic space in Devizes. I have 15 years’ counselling experience with a deep interest in working with; bereavement and loss; with military families and veterans experiencing PTSD; with young people with additional needs such as autism, ADHD and ADD. I work in an integrated style with a special interest in Compassion Focused Therapy.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
