I am a Clinical Psychologist with a decade of experience working alongside professionals in helping services such as social care, youth justice and policing. I understand the realities of working in pressured systems, where you may be expected to hold significant risk and distress while continuing to function, and there is very little support offered to you. Rather than focusing on diagnoses, I offer a space to slow down and understand the experiences, relationships and patterns shaping how you feel and respond. Together, we can make sense of the impact your work is having on you and find practical ways forward.

I help those who seek clarity about their situation, through discussion of the challenges. Viewing issues from multiple perspectives, including evidence based models helps you to get things more in perspective, more malleable, and more manageable. I see to your needs & provide resources as you transition, while we face issues together, & grow your capacity to journey beyond me. This may involve an exploration of the past, or practical focus on here & now strategies & approaches, which influence the map of your life journey you are carving.

I have 30 years experience in psychology from academic study, work psychology and now private practice. Finding a therapist can feel like a minefield. Most important is someone to talk to that you feel comfortable with, and who can of course help. I understand how confusing and nerve-wracking it can be to take the first step. I provide clients with a supportive space in which to unpack things. I will help you to get a better handle on what is happening for you. I have experience of working with anxiety, depression, loss and bereavement, childhood trauma, midlife issues, neurodivergence as well as difficulty understanding feelings.

I draw on models including ACT, CBT, CFT, DBT and MBCT.
It can be overwhelming finding the right therapist and therapeutic approach for you. I aim to make the process of therapy clear and comprehensible, starting with building a shared understanding (formulation) of your difficulties and setting goals. Over the last 14 years I have worked across the NHS and independent practice, supporting adults and young people with mood difficulties (including anxiety and depression), adjustment to physical health conditions, and eating disorders. My clinical experience and training, together with your self-knowledge, is our starting point for therapeutic work.

My practice is informed by Dramatherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and 13 years as a facilitator.
Life often feels messy. Sometimes we can get trapped in a storm of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that we just can't figure out how to move through, and we can be left feeling frustrated and helpless. I really understand that, it can be unbearable to feel this way and we can feel worse for not knowing how to 'fix' it. The truth is that you don't need to be fixed, trust me on this. Instead, you are likely at a point where you could do with the right support and guidance to help you listen to what's happening within, and come to understand it in a different way that allows you to move forward.

I’m trained in multiple approaches (including ACT and ERP which are the best-researched approaches for anxiety and OCD), which means I can adapt the sessions to you and the type of anxiety you're experiencing, and that’s often what makes the difference.
Anxiety has a way of shaping more of your life than you'd like. For some people it looks like panic or physical sensations. For others it's never feeling good enough, holding back in relationships, going quiet when they'd want to speak up, or pushing through everything until they're exhausted. People come to me thinking something is wrong with them, when actually fear has just taken over.

While CBT often forms the foundation of my work, I also draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), tailoring treatment to your individual needs, preferences and goals.
I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I offer online therapy for adults experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, burnout, excessive worry, overthinking, perfectionism and self-criticism. Working remotely allows me to offer therapy to clients throughout the UK. Many people I work with feel overwhelmed, stuck in patterns of worry or self-criticism, struggling with stress at work, or finding that anxiety is affecting their confidence, relationships or day-to-day life. Therapy provides an opportunity to better understand these patterns and develop more effective ways of responding.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
