My ideal client would be open to taking the steps needed to help improve their emotional wellbeing. Change is difficult and sometimes "you don't know, what you don't know". A client who is keen to make positive changes and is able to work to build a trusting therapeutic relationship with me is all that I need.

My aim is to offer my clients a supportive and safe space for them to explore and work through their challenges. This means that I actively listen to my clients, working collaboratively together to find a new perspective and approach to their situations to enable them to make the positive steps toward their goals and in their lives. I believe that counselling isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ process and together we will work out a process that best works for you. Finding a solution to understand or accept something that has been holding you back is a positive step.

EMDR has been shown to be effective for a variety of conditions, including: CPTSD, PTSD, OCD, Addictions, anxiety and panic attacks, depression, phobias, Grief, loss and shame.
Do you feel that past events and other people have a negative impact on your emotions? Are they holding you back? Have you tried to change, but find you can’t on your own? Has a health care professional given you a diagnosis, or have you tried to diagnose yourself? Has all this left you asking questions? I’ve answered ‘yes’ to all these questions myself. Therefore, I know there is always hope. If you want to make changes in your life, I can help you – and show you. I am a fully qualified, insured and DBS checked EMDR Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor.

I have worked with children and young people who present with a range of issues, specialising on all types of anxieties, OCD, phobias, trauma and depression.
Being worried and anxious can effect our whole lives. It may mean that we start to complete rituals to combat this anxiousness or it may mean that we avoid things (e.g. going to school) and stop doing things we previously enjoyed (e.g. social activities like clubs or hobbies). Similarly, if we feel low it might be difficult to get out of bed or be active. We might feel different to others, like we don’t fit in or we are not good enough. We may also be experiencing urges to self-harm or be having suicidal thoughts. Together, we can explore these thoughts and outline a plan to help you to feel better.

Sometimes life can present difficult challenges. When that happens it's easy to feel confused, lonely, stuck and perhaps even judged. I can help you by providing a space for realisation, processing trauma and finding greater inner peace and freedom to live the life you wish for. I believe that the most important relationship we have is with ourselves. Having self compassion and being at peace with one’s self can be difficult to practice. I want to bring you hope and support you in becoming your own best friend.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
