I have many years of experience with anxiety, depression, confidence issues, fears and many more reasons people take up counselling.
I specialise in anxiety, aswell as anger and depression and I work in many other areas which I don’t have enough space to write. I work with over 18s and all genders and I am equipped to work with most life issues. It can be scary to make the call, I understand. Try it for half price for 1 session and make your decision then.

Are you struggling with anxiety (including severe anxiety, GAD and social anxiety), stress, insomnia, panic attacks, low esteem, a phobia, asserting yourself, or something else that's blocking your potential or your peace of mind?
It's helpful if we can identify a particular situation/s where you have a problem so we can create a clear goal and plan for how to get there. Often a problem is so ingrained that we are accustomed to it and don't realise the extent it affects our life.

Hi, my name is Alec, and it is a pleasure to meet you. I understand that seeking counselling or therapy can be a deeply personal experience and it can be difficult to take that first step. For this reason, I strive to offer clients a safe, friendly, and compassionate space to explore their difficulties while they learn about themselves and find healthier alternative ways to live their lives. I do not give advice and fully believe you are the expert on how to be you. However, no matter what your difficulty maybe I can offer you empathy, understanding and support as we work together. If you are seeking change, therapy may be helpful.

Being able to express yourself knowing that you can be heard without fear, embarrassment or shame but with acceptance of you as a person can be life changing.
In your relationship do you experience a feeling that your arguments seem to be around the same issues? We may find that we are becoming over defensive from criticism, have fears of being alone, being hurt, of conflict or of your partner engulfing you as a person. Overcoming our fears can lead to growth and allow you to start enjoying life again.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
